Restoration of Lamont Hall - Lamont Dogherty Earth Observatory - Columbia University

My newest project is to help promote the restoration project at LDEO.

Here is link to the official site.

This happened by chance. I have been attending the weekly colloquiums at the campus. On one occasion, I was walking around the campus and noticed Lamont Hall which was the location of the campus library. To my surprise, the building is closed for rennovation. After asking around, I discovered it had been closed for quite a while. The library was relocated off campus, The building, which was the summer house of Thomas W. Lamont, was part of the original donation back in 1950 of the property that is the LDEO today. The current building is to be rennovated and upgrated to a conference center and the Director’s office. It would have a modern geothermal heating system. This project is just starting and I am helping by getting the word out. There are many Columbia alumni who would be interested in preserving this part of history. The targeted fund to be raised is $7 million.

Please help contibute to this worthwhile endeavor by going to the donate page and be sure to specify the Lamont Hall Restoration Fund in the drop down menu.

The Fencers Club Archive - Jan. 2018

I am going through some storage boxes and identifying some old documents of significance. I plan to digitize them and convert them to PDF files and also print them as photobooks. I intend to include some artifacts from the trophy case and the wall hangings around the club and the various posters and plaques.

Two Olympians - 1952

Researching My Family History

Having created a family tree a while back, I am in the process of finding out more detail information on some of the more prominent members. Here is a few of my relatives.

Earnest Hemmingway and My Grand Uncle 1941

My Personal Archive - Donation to IBM Archives

In the process of downsizing, I am creating a personal digital archive of some of my memorabilia from my many projects at IBM. I have found an easy way to capture and digitize my collection. This is my process. I intend to donate some of my artifacts to the IBM Archives.

Serving on the CCNY Asian Alumni Board - 9/2017

I volunteered to serve on the Asian Alumni board. One of our big fund raising event is the annual New Years Dinner. It is held late February or early Match in line with the Lunar New Year. This year, we will be handing our two scholarship awards to two well deserved students. Each will receive a check for $1500. We also use the occasion to honor some local Asian leaders of the community.

This year, we are lucky to have the newly appointed President of the College Dr. Vincent Boudreau to appear.

Betty Lee Sung - Professor of Asian Stidies CCNY (retired)

Friends of CCNY Fencing

My efforts to help the CCNY Women's Varsity Fencing Team. I created a website to keep our members informed on our progress. Here is the link to my webpage.

You can help by donating to the CCNY Fund and specify the target to "Athletics" Department. In the comment section, stipulate the fund is to help the Women's Varsity Fencing team. Here is the CCNY donate page.

Summary

My list of projects are keeping me busy since retirement. Besides these projects, I am staying fit by returning to fencing practice. It is a great exercise and it is also very good for social interactions.
