My Poem for Valentine's Day

Updated on February 1, 2013

A short poem for Valentine's Day. I write this to my husband of forty-five years hoping there's more of the same in store for both of us.

Together
Together | Source

We once met a long time ago and knew we were meant to be
Our hearts spoke out and showed us both what our eyes could not see
A love that would last through years and years to show the world anew
That our hearts were right and so it went that I always belonged to you.

No easy path our lives did take, we had our ups and downs
But together we traveled through that time and always stood our ground
As each new day brought challenges we always were prepared
Because we knew no matter what we knew each other cared.

Our Family

Our family - seven years ago at our daughter's wedding.
Our family - seven years ago at our daughter's wedding. | Source

You’ve given me so much in all you say and do
Without a thought to all the wondrous things you’ve brought, always standing true
Our lives are special every day with children by our side
Who would’ve thought it would be thus when I was just a bride.

This love we have will always grow as decades pass us by
Sharing, joking, learning seeing all in our mind’s eye
A future filled with happiness for all our family
From that great love that always stems from you and through to me.

I am touched deeply. I love that golden thread you have weaved with words chosen well. I thank you immensely sharing offering hope to those not knowing of such a journey.

A perspective of a queen worth defending and magical too. Tis your hand taken, and not upon my arm, I bow before both you and that knight.

A mate of the soul, is time's journey, eternity is only a blink of the eye, and two have spoke. I bow once more.

Wonderful Mary! Your words tantalize the soul seeking and comforts those which are settled too.

Epi thank you so much for the kind words. I am so lucky my husband and I found each other for as you pointed out, it takes two. Yes, wouldn't it be great if we could keep love alive every day! It is cooled here (think icicles). Our lakes are frozen...look great for ice skating. It is snowing lightly as I type with a possible 3 inches...hope your night shift went well.

Thank you Peg, we have been very lucky, it's actually 46 (this poem was written last year)...thank you for the compliment about my daughter, that was very nice.

      Thanks Eddy, happy you enjoyed.

James, thank you for stopping by and the vote.

How nice to see you Mohan...you've been missed. Thank you for the lovely worlds...I wish I could continue to write "radiantly" as you do.

Your lovely words and votes are appreciated Moonlake.

Good evening Mary - well it's all right here - in these most heartfelt and pure words - and courtesy of the lovely lady behind this pen but because it always take two to tango in love's sweet pas de deux - your dear husband also deserves a lot of credit for being the inspiration/muse behind these regal and deep words - thank you for bringing you love alive for your readers and I would like to think we can all extend Valentine's day beyond the day itself and throughout the rest of the year as well.

Sending you sincere warm wishes from a very cold and chilly night by the lake and a litle later on it's night shift for me - let me know how your winter has been so far - here the lake froze over then it thawed out and the lake is moving again - starry night tonight though over the cold lake

"Blessed" is definitely true, Tillie....but what you and Larry have done with that "blessing" is the key to your enduring love affair...The roller coaster ride of marriage can be both thrilling & challenging...It's clear you both hung on tightly....to each other. Happy Valentine's Day...........Effer

Very sincerely written , and that means all, tillsontitan.

I stood over the computer with my fingers, looking at me asking: what do you wish that I do ? I said write!

Some pictures , when envisioned, just leaves you is a sort of suspended, while you search for an answer that is also well meant.

Words alone don't always described it correctly, but a picture may say. I understand and it's beautiful.

When someone that I have met , has this special phrase, attached to their portfolio .

I can only say, like Moses, both your love withstood the test of time .

Blessings to you both and all the family.

Valentine's Day Poem is nice, however I look at this as a Happy Annversary card to Husband. I was afraid the tears I shed reading this loving poem was going to short out my puter. The Rose, one of my all time favorite songs. Mare, you capatured the moment. Reinforced my love for MY husband, and I'm so glad we are still married. as you, in the minority;. Luv ya
