My Slumbering Dove

Updated on September 2, 2010

My Slumbering Dove

Wake not my precious dove,

Let no morning’s light open your eyes from above.

Slumber deep as dreams take on a rosy hue,

Where laughter and tears of children imagined sing a musical tune.

Curl up tight with covers thick, head so deftly laid upon your pillow,

Let me watch your slumbered state, your soft sweet smile, as dreams won’t wait.

You stretch and roll, still lids are closed, and I know you are at peace.

Tiny hands and limbs hold a tattered bear you won’t soon release.

Day is broke and rays of sun cast upon your dewy cheek to kiss the slumber away.

Won’t you awaken; open your eyes sweet dove, so we can start our day?

Dearest Leah - Once again, you have engaged my heart and carried it to a beautiful memory. It is almost surreal when I visualize and feel my first-born, baby Todd. I had no idea what was in store...that when he grew to man-hood, he would be ripped away from my arms forever. I sill picture his magnificent green half-closed eyes as he lay lifeless in his hospital bed. Mothers, treasure every minute with your little ones and stay close to them as they mature and grow. Thank you for this beautiful and cherished memorie. Much love, to you, my friend from across the miles ~ vocalcoach

This brought back loving memories for me as I stood in the moonlight of my child's room watching as they slumbered so peacefully and how angelic they appeared. I always had a great sense of calm come over me as I watched in silence. Knowing that they were dreaming of sugar plum fairies and butterflies. Peace and hugs.
