Innocence Lost

Updated on December 7, 2009

I look deep into his eyes and the innocence I see is incomparable

He knows no fear, no pain

His joy and laughter is contagious

If only the world could look through his eyes...

Children are losing their innocence

I stand by and watch him leave and as he turns to say goodbye, my tears cause a sudden realization

He suddenly feels fear...the knowledge that this may be the last time he sees home...

And soon blood will be on his hands

So quickly that joy is gone...small victories are when everyone comes back to base

Now he knows fear all too well...the eerie sound a bulltet makes as it blasts by your ear

He knows the pain I felt when he left...the pain he feels folding another flag of a fallen brother

The laughter is gone...

The joy is no more...

And his innocence is lost...
