My new school in this country

Updated on February 26, 2013

It was my first day in school in this Country

I was only about 7 years old..

And of course had to be put in the local school...

The only Asians l saw was the ones that dad

Used to take me to the local temple every Sundays,

With a small close community,

I believe that all came over with their

Carpentry skills

Which was need to build new houses...

It was a hard life especially during winter....

When it was way much too colder

And we did not have central heating than...

The rooms were often covered with layers and

Layers of wallpaper – to insulate the walls...

And there were no baths to some houses

Back than...

l always can remember that horrible paraffin

heat smell.,

but it kept us warm... and mum used to send my

sister to the local stall to buy a bag of corn...

we would hurdle around this paraffin heater to

keep warm, when it snowed outside...

she would put the pan on top of this

heater to warm it...

and add butter and salt...

and then we would wait for the moment

and hear the corn popping...

and in a little while...

when the noise of the popping stopped.,

she would lift the lid....

and we would share the best

pop corns in the World.....

Anyways... school was must...

Mum dropped me off.. in my new school..r

It was hard to make friends...

As l stood in the playground watching

Other children play..

A tall Asian girl...

I remember her clearly,

She was tall and lanky

And wore a blue long pleated skirt

Below her knee,

She had an earring aid attached to

Her ear..

She walked up to me...

to only to greet and welcome me with a kick

it was so quick, quick enough for my

instinct to grave her flying kick and l

pulled it,

she fall on her back...

as other children watched her....

At least l made a few friends

After that.....l was no longer

afraid to go to my new school.
