Naked Shadow

Updated on November 12, 2012

I fought the fight inside

Behind my mind, beside

Its naked shadow …

Fooled my pride into believing

That I could follow

And decided for me

That I could be

That I could see

That I was heavy

That I was tortured

That I was even alive and honored

Some distant scene was fathomed

I lost my footing

Gathering that momentum

Needed for the shedding

But the measure there

Was getting so extreme

That I fought he fight instead

Inside a dream

I’ve been cornered and betrayed

Careless and afraid

And I’ve stood inside my naked wealth ashamed

But the only thing that matters

As long as I seem tattered

Is whatever in the end that shall remain

As I was

Before and because

That I am only all that is

Along the way

Thanks again Nellieanna I really appreciate that you took time out to read my poetry that took me years and years to be able to share with others. I'm very much enjoying this particular forum. Thanks

Thanks again, arb for your interest and taking time out to read my writings ... I really appreciate it. I'm starting to stretch a little. I'm going over to see if there's anything new with you.

Arb said it well. It's a profound realization, m'dear. When we peel away the fake identities we may have been assigned and accepted, we discover our real selves inside there. Then we know that is what reliably abides with us through our journey here, and is ours to guide and mentor in becoming fully whole and who we are.

That you are only all that is along the way. A profound observation. We can, however, influence where we go and thereby, who we are. Beautiful poetry!
