Never Being Sure

Updated on May 23, 2015

In her life she was never sure

she doubted everything and everyone

as a child her parents

had tossed her aside

living life in a drug filled world

she taken from them

became no one’s child

love and comfort

wasn’t her life

tears and pain

and wondering why

she grew up best as she knew how

until the day came

when love finally entered her life

she embraced it with all that she had

but the gentleman was the wrong kind

the second time a heart gets badly broken

it might never mend again

there was no one to turn to

the day he stepped on her heart

he tossed away all that she was willing to give him

he didn’t care to know about the life she had led

so bleeding and broken once more

she chose to crawl into a shell

and close the door

it was a shiny day by the sea

when the healing spring breezes began to blow

he watched her as she playfully ran

under the sun in the sand

her only faithful companion Max

her terrier always by her side

and he wondered in perhaps she was an illusion

from too many hours spent under the sun

she seem unreal somehow

like a fragile, earthen jug

that at a touch of the hand would go crashing into the sea

but he approached the two friends anyhow

two startled blue eyes grew wide

and Max began his barking sonata

she hushed him and her heart beat fast

but this guy seemed gentle and kind

his smile as bright as the spring day

before they knew it the hours had passed

it was Max howling in excitement at the big moon

that awoke them to realize

the day was through

and now he knew all about her life

what made them the best of friends

was that as her story unfolded

his cheeks became wet with tears

he was one guy who felt her tears and fears

as the summer came rolling in

they grew ever closer

their love so very apparent

that anyone seeing them sighed

for a love like that is so rare

it comes but once in a lifetime

or so people like to say

it was upon that same seashore

that they exchanged their vows

Max as the ring master

gulls as their witnesses

they vowed their love for one another

and these vows the seas waves blessed

the pastor saw that as they said I do

the sun shone golden

and the waves softly whispered against the shore

and as he took his wife’s hand

he told her that these would be

the best years of their lives

and when the sunset came

and their hair would be streaked with silver

he would look at her and say

“I love you now and forever more”

Rasma, this is absolutely awesome! She never gave up hope. Her Prince Charming was waiting for her when she least expected it. I love that they married on the spot where they met. What a wonderful story!
