Never Easy Saying Good-bye

Updated on June 30, 2014

Swing with me on the moon

Take my hand

Let’s fly to the stars

Be my love

And I’ll be yours

Together a world of fantasy

We’ll make

Let’s ride over the moon

Fly on clouds that roll by

Be my love

And I’ll make your life

A real fantasy

These were the words

He used to steal her heart away

The words she always remembered

Whenever he would come to mind

She wondered how things had gone so wrong

And if he was now

Swinging on the moon

With a new love

Their love had been like a fantasy

Until the day when they chose different paths

She wanted to keep living the simple life

While he wished to be

Part of the bright lights

Of the city

Following neon lights

To him so bright and pretty

Where the glittering lights

Dazzled the eyes

And shimmered and glowed

From dozens of windows

Music blasting from doorways

The sounds of the city

But every time she looked into his eyes

She tried to find a spark of love still there

Inside she was torn apart

Having to say good-bye

When she wished he’d say

He would stay

Stay for a lifetime

And keep her safe and warm

But city love and country love don’t mix

She longed to keep counting

The sparkling stars at night

That dimmed with millions of city lights

To her sweet music

Was cricket choruses at night

So even though he’d swore to love

Forever more

Disappointed he’d left

While she stayed behind

Being a country girl at heart

The city seemed so distant and far

Like an unreachable star

Yet late in the night

She’d lie wide awake

And his words

Would ring again and again

In her ears

And she’d dream of the two of them

Swinging on the moon

Among the stars

In the great big sky

While reading this beautiful poetry i thought about the lyric, ' everything that glitters is not gold '. How very true that is...

It obviously wasn't meant to be. True love often finds a way. It's not easy to compromise and it's so sad when love falls apart.

I love the words 'swinging on the moon'. Great stuff! Ann
