New Moon - Embracing Shadow

Updated on December 30, 2010

New Moon - Embracing Shadow

 New Moon, Dark and Cold

Sister to the Light

Moving through the winter sky

On this Star filled night

In the darkness there is a void

Holding secrets we can feel

Magic from another realm

Or tragedy concealed

We’re drawn to find you

When most wouldn’t even look

No fame like phases of your siblings

No mentions in most books

New Moon, No Glow

No Lovers look upon you

Nor gaze into your face

And admire your lovely hue

Instead thieves and madmen

And wandering bands of soulless

Take advantage of your shadow

Enjoy this night of deadness

They commit themselves to crimes

Believing prisons cannot connect them

For in absence of the light

The mirror holds no reflection.

New Moon, Solid at your Core

Light and Shadow quite subdued

All who fear the light or darkness

Find solace prostrate before you

The Shadow Muse plays beneath your rays

Bending time and light

The fairies dance with sweet romance

Setting their hay bales alight

All woodlands play in shadow foray

Knowing this special night

There will be an answer from the Forest Blade Dancer

Who fiddles and diddles delight

So in the New Moon, set out your runes

And join in the sacred dance

Be pure of heart, and you will start

To feel the heat and fire of romance

If a cold wind should blow through the ice and snow

Know the fires still burn from within

And keep bundled up tight, by your own firelight

Crack a window for the fairies and kin.

prasetio20, thank you for coming by again. it is quite an honor to hear that you are so touched by my writing. Brightest Blessings always.

Epi, we could certainly share a wonderful evening of music together! Enya is of course full of magic and otherworldliness, while Loreena just takes my breath and mind to such distant places - I'm entranced by her. Blackmore's Night makes me dance and touches both heart and soul with their magical gifts. I love Under a Violet Moon.

Penny, It is always so good to see you here my sweet sister!!! Thanks for your wonderful words and blessings and hugs to you!!!

..yes I am quite familiar with Blackmore's Night because I have a DVD of this group playing live in front of a castle - and Richie of course once played for Deep Purple as their lead guitar player - I am quite tickled though that you know about Enya and Loreena - another lady I would recommend is Kate Bush including my favorite album of all time - The Kick Inside!

      Epi,

thanks for dropping by again, you always grace my pages everytime you do! Would you believe I have almost every Loreena McKennitt and Enya CD already in my collection? Of course you would! For my Celtic and Renaissance inspiration I love Blackmore's Night - I don't have as many of their CD's as they are not as widely recognized, but I believe you can also find them on youtube. I do so love Loreena's "Stolen Child" if you get a chance to listen. Namaste'

..lovely lovely writing - as always - I have a fascination with the moon myself - as I have seen thousands of moons over the years here at the lake - in all shapes and sizes - in all colors - in all seasons - I am lucky to live out here in the country literally but 100 feet away from Lake Erie so I can see the moon in all its glory ......

referring to your 'fantasy' style writing which you are so very good at composing - I would recommend a Canadian artist to you by the name of Loreena McKennnitt - just go to You Tube and type in her name for a video - I often think of her when I am reading words like yours - and of course another one I would recommend is Enya!

Thanks for dropping by - it always makes my day or night!

      Dawn, Rich, Nell, and Acaetnna,

Thank you all for enjoying the adventure with me under the shadow of the new moon! Its always a fun time, the full moon is so radiant and everyone is drawn into its light, then the slivers of the quarters, and the awkwardness of only half a moon. But I've always looked for a New Moon, the void, the shadow moon. It has an energy too. There are so many who pay attention, even in history, in wars, to surprise the enemy on the dark of the moon when they couldn't see them coming. Still, so much goes on - in our fairy world :) in the Shadow and Light of the Moon :) Yes, I think I should leave tea and cakes too Nell!

I have always had a fascination for the moon and admired its presence in the high up starry skies. A full moon is a sight to behold and sheds so much wondrous light.

I enjoyed reading this wonderful poem and thanks for sharing it Erin.

Cheers and God bless and wish you a Happy New Year!
