"Our New Year's Revolution"

A drastic change

Midnight, time to make amends

A plastic exchange

Midnight, a toast to all you my friends

False lines curved up at the corner of our mouth's

Champagne drenched souls, thirsty from the drought

The herd is happy when the shepherd let's them play

The herd is happy together if only for the day

So, we celebrate, commiserate and eviscerate truth as we stand in line

Shoveling down hot dogs, hamburgers and beer to the tune of Auld Lang Syne

Selfish crowds of cowards unwilling to sacrifice for the greater good

Selfish crowds of cowards, how I wish they would

Take a stand hand in hand, man with man, together, uplift the masses

Promise to love each other, blowing into party favors, wearing crazy hats and 2014 shaped glasses

Sadly it's all for naught in this selfish American dream

We morons only unite to buy, to sell and to be seen

Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth

By the time we meek get a hold of it, what'll the big blue girl be worth?

We, a big bunch of dim witted sycophants, praising false idols

Sheep in close proximity, we could exchange shoes, but nobody would walk the miles

We look united on the TV screen as they market to us and pull our wool over our eyes

Later, we'll scatter back home to our TV's screaming out, "This message brought to you by, lies"

We the strong numbers who gather round, year end and year out; here we are in yet another selfish conclusion

A year of new hopes, new dreams, new plots, new schemes to be sold to our melting pot of illusions

Let's not drop the ball this year, let's raise it up and achieve a solution for our resolutions

Let's not drop the ball this year, let's be good to each other, let's be resolute in 2014 our New Year of Revolution

Wow Eric, I'm certain this will be the best and most powerful New Years poem I read this year. Poignant and so very true. It needs a revolution, not just resolutions.
