No Chains Can Bind

By Tony DeLorger © 2011

To withhold expression is an affliction of the soul,

a violation of all that we are,

the potential of vibrant life and the capacity to love.

Love cannot remain within restriction,

freedom its true and intrinsic nature,

tinged with bitterness when denied.

Love rejected is the greatest sadness,

the greatest loss to a world in need,

and like a flower deprived of light,

it will wither in decay.

Spent love transforms to a sour end,

the bile of unfulfilled will

tainting what once was beauty,

to the judgement of belittling minds.

When love ends, release it,

so it may nurture another bloom,

in the freedom and purity of its being,

without the vile gaze of ego.

To withhold expression is to still a heart,

choke the breath from life,

and to live truth in denial.

No chains can bind love,

as much as we can catch a butterfly,

its true beauty in its freedom flight.

A heart closed to life is a travesty,

an open heart is the acceptance of life,

with all its truths.
