No Way Back

By Tony DeLorger © 2013

How fragile the course of love,

its delicate bounds forever at the hands of our ineptitude,

life's monotonous play eating away held beauty,

until we lose that passion to the mundane.

Then, in desperation, we face the loss,

too late to find that fork in the road,

too late for will to overcome the loss and redefine,

and we, bereft of all solutions stand broken,

face to face, in flooded tears,

love slipped through outstretched fingers,

and pain, the sting of oversight, finds truth,

hearts crippled in the realization.

Such desperation,

such torrid fear and desolation,

in hearts that see the loss of everything,

that butterfly of vibrant beauty,

swept away forever,

and the pieces of lives strewn like broken glass,

shards razor edged and piercing, underfoot.

There is no outpouring so complete, so overpowering,

than the realisation of love lost,

and the life of dreams, taken away,

the prospect of rediscovering the self, daunting,

truly being alone the new reality.

But all things heal in time,

and the heart beats on,

and when light finally appears,

there is a future, there is life beyond loss,

and if chosen even love,

on this journey of exquisite pain and joy,

we call life.

When all is lost, we suffer our own nightmares, but life soon reveals with nothing to lose we have everything to gain...and life goes on.

Tony, To remember always how easily broken our affections for someone or something can occur because of our own fumblings. There can be no way back sometimes, the difficulty itself presents the lines upon our faces to smile at the future.: "...its delicate bounds forever at the hands of our ineptitude..." Very good. Thank you for taking the time to post this piece of writing.
