Victim

Updated on October 12, 2014

I was once one of those that were subject to being a victim of calling my fellow bredrens nigga...

Being bamboozled for generations by thinking this was a word of solidarity and affection...

My nigga”...

This nigga right here”...

What's up niggaaaa”...

Statements of endearment...

So I was thinking...

To think that I never had an understanding why my father; one that was very spiritual and committed to the Muslim beliefs will severely punish my brother and me for using what he considered was a “derogatory word”...

But Dad...

The first couple words to begin our rebuttal...

All the rappers say it...

Jigga that nigga, nigga what, nigga who”...

All the comedians say it...

Nigga please” coined by yours truly Paul Mooney...

We hear it consistently on the movies...

38 times in Jackie Brown...

To top it off...

It's in our books...

213 times in Huckleberry Finn...

But Dad...

But Dad...

But Dad...

Here I am young and educated but never understood...

Never understanding that my brothers and sisters are not niggers nor niggaz...

We are Kings and Queens with deep origins to a great land of wealth where the word nigger nor nigga doesn't exist...

But here we use nigga to coexist...

Simultaneously to be independent and set ourselves apart...

But from what...

Deluded to thinking this is needed when it's not required because the color of our skin does enough to set us apart...

A conglomerate congregation...

This is our Nation...

We are trend setters, achievers and believers...

So why call each other niggaz...

Then be quick to be hypocritical when you feel disrespected by another race for being called that derogatory name besides the birth name that was given to you by your parents...

But it's apparent...

Judging by your appearance when your pants are sagging down to your knees...

Shirt so short that the brand of your boxers are showing above your skinny jeans...

Quick to be offensive and apprehensive because you feel that it's permissive to express yourself...

This is a nation of wealth and knowledge...

So why be blind with a stigmatism...

Setting your roots to be criticized by the system...

Why subject yourself to being a victim...

Thought provoking. I pray that others will finally take the time to reflect in the same manner as you and make the decision to remove this word (and mindset) from their vocabulary.

This is a great message for many today. Especially for our youth tha are still being molded into the adults that they will become. Keep up the good work bro!
