No Longer There (poem)

Updated on December 17, 2013

All around he searches

Streets which now are bare

This poor and lonely fellow

With so much to share

-

Once people laughed as children cast

Magic in the air

But now an echo answers

They’re no longer there

-

Those moments wrapped in Joy

Endless was its flare

Neighbors knew their fellows

Helping hand to spare

-

All life’s richness they were blessed

Passed on him to bear

But thoughts within his mind

Were no longer there

-

So in his time he left

Tearful was their prayer

And all which he had learned

Heightened life’s affair

-

But as he grew in wisdom

Soul became aware

And now the Joys he sacrificed

Are no longer there

Very moving and thought-provoking. I am reminded of the old saying, "You can never go home again." It's not there. So very true.

Voted up, awesome, beautiful, shared and pinned.

Honestly M...your poetry is making me forget those hilarious ditties of yours!

I have goosebumps, and for some reason - your poem reminded me of all the poeple who's world's are completely destroyed SUDDENLY - think hurricanes, tornadoes etc..

Everything they KNOW is just gone...just not there anymore, and - it's not due to time gone by..

i remember watching the news during one of these storms - and a man was videotaping their HUGE front tree just being uprooted and blown away. I heard his wife crying that it was her favorite tree - and it put it all in perspective for me.

People lost a LOT more than trees - including them...

We must appreciate what we have - when we have it..and hold the memories dear..

      blahblah...lol

      i loved it. sharing

      Thought provoking and deep.

Our past becomes unreachable at some point in our lives.

All that are left are the memories.

      Beautiful but sad thoughts.

      DJ.

There are many things in life that have a way of "hollowing out" over the years. Good poem.

Life is like that, some areas become desolate when there is no sign of those past years.

      Up and more and sharing

      Superb!

This is thought provoking and meaningful. Does the point come where we finally notice what we can no longer reach. Very deep.
