Not Just a Summer Love

Updated on August 16, 2014

Summer dreams

Often turn to ashes

When the summer days

Of golden sun

Come to an end

He never understood

Why it had to be so

Perhaps as they often say

There is a certain magic

In a starry summer night

There is a certain magic

In the golden days

When it seems that the world

Has become so much more kind

When it seems

That along every sandy beach

There are two sets of footprints

Washed away only by the waves

Lapping against the shore

He only knew that when he first saw her

It was a bright June day

Her dress was as blue as the summer sky

Her lips as red as the roses

That bloomed nearby

It seemed that all that summer long

They just waltzed along

Every moment they could

Spent together

With tender kisses shared

Yet he fretted

Keeping in mind

That summer romances

Never continue

With autumn leaf dances

With every smile they shared

Every passionate kiss

He kept wondering

How true was her I love you

As August days drifted by

It was so fine to have her

By his side

Summer dreams

They shared

Summer kisses

So warm and divine

And so it happened

That he held her ever tighter

As August slipped into September

Hand in hand

They sat as he watched

The autumn wind

Begin to play

With the leaves on the trees

And he started to wonder

If soon she would want to be free

He told her how much he cared

He told her of his love

It was then that his heart

Filled with so much joy

As he said I love you

She turned to him and smiled

Her words were like a lovely melody

As she replied, “I’m so glad you are mine”

I remember my first summer love…it did last beyond those halcyon days of sun and sand, and magic nights under the moon and stars. Your beautiful poem reminds of that time. Thank you. :-)
