Nothing Mattered

Updated on January 4, 2016

Nothing mattered the day he left

except that the sun lost its shine

she even managed to smile

when he told her

he wanted to be free

she was never one to chain him

she always thought it was her love

that could hold him

she remembered the happy times

when they understood one another

when the loving came easy

and the tears far between

then it was easy, so easy for her

to share her love with him

nothing mattered the day he left

between them there was even laughter

yet the sky turned overcast

and a chill wind blew around

she wondered how it could be

that after all this time he had no love for her

nothing mattered the day he left

and the last thing he saw was her smile

it was so very wide

one would think that they were still in love

he left with a frown

because a tiny little tear let her down

it flowed along her cheek

a traitor of her sunny mood

for a moment by the door he stood

then turned and walked away

she closed the door and curtains

and nothing mattered anymore

A beautiful poem about heartbreak. Nothing really matters when you lose the one you love.

Rasma, you've done it again. You've portrayed the pain of lost love beautifully and truthfully. I always enjoy your poetry.

      Touching, captivating, real ...

Abba is so charming! I really loved that group! Alas! They disappeared too soon.

A wonderful poem Rasma, and one of the few written by you that do not have a happy ending. Still you are a wonderful story teller through poetry.

Love between two people once beautiful. Through time their hearts grew apart. Leaving her was the final good bye. Very strong emotions. We all have a love that didn't work out.

Such a stirring piece of imagery, the brave soul desperate to not show the heartbreak from within, somehow hoping the happy moments of the past would be enough to sustain her for this final act

Rasma, you captured the feelings perfectly of a love gone wrong and one attempting to hide it. When she pulled the curtains I felt her pain. Beautiful my poet friend!
