Now Is the Time ~ Follow Your Heart

Updated on September 21, 2013

Now Is the Time

Why do people say you've got nothing but time

When this life could easily stop on a dime

Today could be filled with happiness or with sorrow

But there may not be another tomorrow

So embrace every moment there is today

Live this day today as if it were that someday

Cherish the laughter and the pain

Learn to dance even in the rain

Find a smile even if it's with a tear

Because now is all the time we have here

Follow your heart for all it's worth

Leave your own mark upon the earth

There's usually a reason a dream gets its start

A reason it takes root deep within a heart

But how are dreams supposed to grow wings to use to fly

Among the excuses for another time

This is not simply some silly little whim

Now's the time to find out if you'll sink or if you'll swim

Cherish the laughter and the pain

Learn to dance even in the rain

Find a smile even if it's with a tear

Because now is all the time we have here

Follow your heart for all it's worth

Leave your own mark upon this earth

It really makes no difference how old you are

Please, oh please, don't you waste another breath

If there is a spark deep within your heart

Live for it, take a step - just a small step

Cherish the laughter and the pain

Learn to dance even in the rain

Find a smile even if it's with a tear

Because now is the only time we have here

Follow your heart for all it's worth

Leave your own mark upon the earth

This song popped in my head after I finished writing this poem. I keep humming or singing it, and I thought about posting a semi-karaoke version of the chorus, which is the part in my head. Instead, however, I will spare you that and here is the song as sung by Collin Raye:

Let us grasp that real thing. All it is worth --- I just can't do it!!! But you make it closer with this piece.

I hope that like I have fallen in love with you,,, you can fall in love with me.

People have a hard time with that. But not me.

Haha! Ah, Eric, you couldn't possibly be in love with me. Lol. You must've missed the other one I published tonight just before this one...

Your last line is Oh so important. I once buried a man who did nothing. Sad...

I feel like this is all said when we get a chance to pause or reflect. It means so much in so little time. Then we move back into life. Thank you for this writing.

Thank you, W1totalk. I think it is often said, but the reasons to wait are often also preached by others as well. Life is always there, but even among the practical choices of reality small steps can be taken toward the things a heart wishes to pursue.

      Aw, dearest Shan,

What an inspirational poem here full of much truth from your loving heart. You are beautiful and your written words here speaks volumes as to your insight as to living this life, and all that entails.

      Amazing song and video too!

      Voted up ++++ and sharing

Hugs and love from southern USA, Faith Reaper

Faith Reaper, I was just thinking of you! You've read my mind. I hope your precious little granddaughter is thriving.

Thank you so much for voting it up and for sharing. It was quite a task using a cell phone to complete a couple of hubs! The appreciation of fellow hubbers makes it worth my extra time.

Insight to life, maybe. Just realizing I've generally felt this way my entire life- that I would rather chase a dream and fail than not try, that I would rather test my own strength and keep trying despite obstacles and setbacks. And this year in particular seems to have been full of them. It's also the first hear I've really begun telling myself there really isn't plenty of time later. Besides, my dreams have a practical nature to them, some of them, at least to me. Because leaping off the edge and expecting others to catch me is neither practical nor fair to them. So, I wait out my feelings of deep frustration and look for the ways in which I can take small steps toward the destination I desire. It's a challenge!

That is beautiful! Great message. And I haven't heard that song in years.

Have a great day, and thanks for sharing it with us.

Thanks, Kathryn. I hadn't heard it in years either, but all of a sudden it was in my head - and apparently it's here to stay for awhile. Lol

My thoughts and beliefs forever...We just never know, and some things as precious as love and joy should indeed be grasped and treasured, when one is lucky enough to find them...'Seize the Day', indeed. Loved this piece. Beautiful, Awesome, Interesting, sharing, and Voted up. It's wonderful

Shanmarie, This hub just influenced a big life decision of my older son. He had a big decision to make about continuing to pursue opportunities in New York or out here on the Western Coast. My advice to him was deeply influenced by this piece. He is going to come back out west and devote himself to his art talents which is following his heart. Good for him and Good on you.

Well, gee, Eric. I don't know what to say tot hat. I'm humbled and I certainly hope it turns out to be a decision well worth making for him! But, if he is happy, how could he go wrong?

A great thought and one I believe in. These lines are so pretty:

Cherish the laughter and the pain

Learn to dance even in the rain

Thanks, Nellieanna. It is one I believe in as well. I keep getting knocked down, but I figure any little step is better than giving up or taking none at all. So they aren't just words to me.

So perfect for what's going on in my head these day--you make me feel hope as opposed to feeling like a hopeless romantic-beautiful piece
