Number 19 ... a poem about cancer

Updated on March 2, 2017

As it begins
Without symptoms
Without any signs
I am blissful
I am unaware
Suddenly
Without sympathy
Without empathy
I am lost
I am nothing

As a battle raging ulcerates
I can't communicate
I am mortally coiled
As replicative immortality
I am tied to my malignancies
Inducing angiogenesis
I am being invaded
By a legion in metastasis
I am tired of dying slowly

As cellular breakdown dances
I am enslaved to my neurologically
Systemic feverish fallout
Something the doctors say
I inherited genetically
This decent into oblivion
Has no cause but many effects
As they suggest chemotherapy
They say 1 in 20 patients
Having a cancerous condition
Successfully enter remission
I unfortunately am number 19

I am painfully aware
I am in pain
Without control
Without sympathy
For there is no devil to blame
No hope
Only mutations
Only personal demons
Waiting for exorcisms
I am lucid
I am dreaming
My body succumbs
Becomes more numb
My last worldly pathology
As the world ends around me

A stark reality that far too many people know all too well. Beautiful job of putting into words an ugly truth. Very nice work my friend.

Thanx BB. Cancer is a human disease. Even if we never have to deal with it face to face, everyone is impacted by it. I feel it is an important issue of our times. Hopefully it will be eradicated one day. Keep on Hubbing. Blake4d
