OUT ON THE LIMB

Updated on March 5, 2012

By: Wayne Brown

My old mind is a racing and coming up slow

My thoughts are wandering about; no where to go

Looks like my lot is cast and my pickings are slim

That’s the way it is…out on the limb

There’s too much month at the end of the money

Someone slipped in and took my pretty new honey

Maybe I need to think about things I can trim

Otherwise, I’m stuck…out on the limb

The bank disowned me; my car has been repossessed

My old shoes are worn out and long seen their best

The bills keep coming; the debt I cannot seem to stem

That’s how it is…out on the limb

Can you help a brother out? Give me just a little hand

I just need some assistance getting back on dry land

Other guys are doing it and my women leave with them

That’s just the way it is…out on the limb

Bad breath, body odor and my old greasy hair needs a clip

I wish had money for a beer but I’d settle for a sip

Got no motivation or drive; nothing to get me into the gym

That’s the same old sad story…out on the limb

You know who your friends are when you get in this shape

Everything’s gone; all that is left is WD-40 and duct tape

A life this hard should be recorded on motion picture film

That’s just the facts, maam…out on the limb

Ain’t got food, no home, no work; hell I ain’t got a red dime

My luck should be turning around soon; it’s well past time

Something needs to break soon; get me back into the swim

I’ve more than done my time…out on the limb

Oh, look a yonder; coming over the top of that long hill

It’s a blue-eyed blonde driving a convertible Coupe-Deville

She looks like she’s got money; some green that I can skim

Now if she’ll just see my thumb…and gets me off of this limb

@saddlerider1..We've all been out on that limb at one time or the other. I know that you have. But you are safe in the tree of life now my friend. Thanks for the good comments and thank you for the kudos on the score. My sadness in achieving that level is the knowing of how many really great writers are still there who have inspired me...I hope for the best for you and all of them! WB

Oh brother isn't that the truth, I have lived on the limb many times and sometimes on the lam to. Oh well the past is behind me now and I live in the tree of life, no longer on the limb.

Great write my friend, you put a grin on this Saddle's kisser. Nice to see your score staying up there at a 100 where it belongs, you are a wonderful writer.

Haha! Yeah , what Genne East said - I guess I pictured a corvette in my head - I'm not real good with cars:-). Laurels daddy drove a vette - trouble!

The first question that popped into my mind was where did you get that wonderful photo…that is until I read the caption beneath. Excellent and fun read; thanks, Wayne. But be careful of blondes in Coup-Devilles. Nicely done!

@breakfastpop...If I ever become famous Poppy, I need to take you on the road with me so you can tell everyone that I am awesome before I show up! LOL! WB

@poorconservative1...I am sure it will get even more crowded between now and 2012...By then we will be on a forced march to the poor house courtesy of Obama. WB

@Truckstop Sally...Shoot! That blue-eyed blonde in the convertible will still be laughing while I am slapping the dust off that she left on me. I have not yet used "King of the Road" but I guess I need to think how I could use...Thanks much! WB

@KimberlyLake....You are so welcome, and thank you for reading it and commenting! WB

@dahoglund...It's a crowded tree, DA! LOL! WB

@thebluestar...I hear you coming already. Just keep punching those keys and your wishes will come true. I remember thinking that I would never get this far. If I can do it, anyone can! WB

@Amy Becherer...Yep, that's one of the lines you just never forget. I also like that old Bob Dylan line...I'll be as gone as a wild goose in winter, then you'll understand your man. Love the way, Dwight Yoakam does it! Thanks Amy. WB

@RealHousewife...That's off so true...hold off on giving me the proceeds of the collection plates until I ditch these women! LOL! WB

@drbj...It that ever a true conclusion. You know that she's not making the payments on that Coupe Deville...got her a sugar daddy! Thanks Doc! WB

Be careful, Wayne, with that blonde in the Coupe Deville.

If you got anything of value, find it, she will.

WB - this was great! So believable too - I was thinking we could start a collection for you:-). You know any old girl driving around in a corvette is just leading you to trouble!

"There's too much month at the end of the money" is a great line, Wayne. Loved the whole piece. It rings so true and is stated so well. Glad to see the cowboy hat still on your head. Bravo!

And a bad hair day too! Damn! Could it get any worse? At least it's hump-day, and the weekend is in sight -- in case the blue-eyed convertible-driving blonde doesn't materialize. Ha!! Love the picture too! What about Roger Miller's Trailers for Sale or Rent? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9GOkc6aEfkM
