Oh Deer

Updated on August 26, 2015

I Saw It

Just when you think you have seen it all

A deer in our headlights

Out of no where

They are so fast

This one not moving

Standing in the middle of the road

I was my wife's co pilot

With my eyes shut

We were still talking

I could feel the sudden swerve

As for the breaks my wife tapped them hard

What ?

In shock I yelled

Not fully grasping the danger of the situation

As we drove bye

The deer had headed back off the road

Into the woods

No time to react

Thanks to my wife's quick thinking

I am still here

Things could of turned out quite differently

Now what I thought was important

Totally slipped my mind

One of many reasons

To give you one big hug

I am glad we are both home safe

A chance to reflect on my day

With God's love guiding the way

We know the risks while driving

As much as we do

On the road at least three hours a day

Goingcto work and back home again

Boy does time fly

Just when we were having so much fun

annart I will try my best to connect my ideas and turn them into action.I watch other people with love and passion. Then I think what can I do. What will be my contribution. How can I help others? Looking for my own unique talents. Spending my time and energy to develop. Enjoying every step of the way. Have a pleasant night. Missy Smith Reading your words my prayers go out to those who are injured because of animals in the road. The animals are trying to live their own lives and we get in the way even though we think it's the other way around. Your family has suffered so much may love, help and support make life easier. Thank you for reading and sharing your own personal story. Michael-Milec Angels are all around us. Helping us with our life. Taking time to be happy for all that we have been blessed.Thank you for reading and sharing.

A combination of an instinctive reflex plus a secret revealed: on the assignment, invisible- spiritual guardian angels working in your behalf - they been there too.

( In our family we do lay claim of angels protection for any short or longer trip, thanking the Almighty for provision.)

Beautiful creatures but so naive when it comes to the highway. Although, if you live in a heavy hunting area like I do here in Florida, then those hunters will drive them out there on the roads with their dogs. Hunting season starts back up in October if I'm not mistaken, and I am not looking forward to it.

You know; I think of the possible tragedies that can occur every single time I get behind the wheel. I know too many that have died in car crashes, even my family. My 17-year-old cousin in 2007, and my niece just was killed in 2013. It will make you say a thank you to God above when you dodge the bullet. It's just really scary to go anywhere, but it's a must to survive.

I enjoyed your poem Dream On; it's one I relate to well.

      Well, thank you kindly!

As long as you get all your ideas down on paper there's plenty of time to sort them out!

annart I enjoyed both comments. I think the comments don't post until I o.k. them. I am able to see them and love them even more. My wife is faster on her feet. I am more a thinker and one who tinkers. We are such a good team. I am so blessed. Thanks for reading and taking the time to comment not only once but twice. I love that both comments are put in different words. You have a natural ability where your words flow. I have to think and get in touch with my inner self to see what I am feeling. I feel different every day. My head swims with so many thoughts. I only get to use a few of my ideas and the rest are begging to be heard. I say there is always tomorrow.

Good job your wife was alert. We never know when we're going to have to react quickly so it pays to be aware at all times. Glad you're safe and sound.

Quick reactions and always being on the alert are so important when we drive. Glad it all turned out well. Yes, we can be thankful for each day turning out well in the end.

We don't have deer Dream On but we have to be aware of kangaroos and wallabies on the road..sometimes cattle occasionally. Thank God your wife was alert with quick reflexes.
