Oklahoma is Strong

Updated on March 6, 2017

The attack on the federal building in nineteen seventy-two, we shall not forget,

When lives were lost, it did so hurt our spirits, harm was done, much to regret.

It was in the Spring, in April, a time to be of happiness, it so saddened our year,

Terrorists may take our lives, but never take our pride, trying to instil more fear.

Oklahoma, the beautiful state, there's so much here for us all to well appreciate,

Wild creatures, galore, and forest, trees tall and thick, sunups, sunsets so great.

The wide open plains, the warm summer rains, the higher mountains in the east.

Fine crops, grown by farmers, to span across the land, our nation's veritable feast.

When the bad storms came, in those years of the past, Oklahomans stood fast,

Terrible tornadic winds so devastated the towns, to strike like an explosive blast.

Families were hurt, children lost in schools, and homes destroyed, so torn apart.

All People of the cities, the smaller towns, came to their aid, being strong of heart.

No finer example will you find in any country, those of the fifty states, each town,

Oklahoma, its family of friends, always to pitch in, help lift burdens off, all around.

There's no better place to live, a nicer life for all to enjoy, for here it is to be found,

The greatest medical provisions, educational facilities, every one, here to abound.

The Boomers and Sooners, in 1882, both, opened up this land of opportunity,

The great land rush afforded a new life, so benefited many, the vast majority.

Native people were here and many to come, most wonderful cultures, in sum,

Our country gifted of rare quality, their sacred dances, each beat of the drum.

In the heartland of this great nation, this wonderful place of such a warm quality,

Oklahoma does so represent the best of humanity, that purest trait, of its humility.

There's no better place to raise your family, and to teach them right from wrong,

Such an honor is its benevolence, sent from our creator, here for us all to belong.

we are so blessed...
we are so blessed...

Oklahoma sets a standard for many people in this country. If we all tried as hard, we would be assured of success. Thank you for your review. Blessings. whonu

I remember vaguely. Perhaps what we need is that same spirit of coming together for a common good. Expressed well.

Beautiful poetic tribute to the strength of Oklahoma. How well we remember the attack in which lives were lost. We really saw the best of humanity!
