Old Times Here Again

Updated on June 16, 2017

Dig Out That Old Record Player

Where did I put that box of records

Ahhh here it is

As I thumb through a few

I blow off the dust on the rest

Todays weather is 82 and sunny

I opened the kitchen slider wide

My wife made homemade pizza with mushrooms, black olives and onions

I crank it up

I can feel the kitchen floor vibrate

Better than I remember

I was a teenager when records were popular

Now I am a middle aged man with a plan

A sweet home with a wonderful loving wife

We both work hard

As the first song strikes a cord in my spine

My wife looks over at me

Rolls her eyes not once

But three times

She said really

I will get dressed and will go

I thought we could listen to records

While the clothes were drying

My wife has other plans

Eat up so we can go

It's quarter to two

As I beg to listen to one more song

I will be ready when you are

My wife read on line

Twenty two years ago O.J. tried on the famous glove in court

It's a piece of history

With so many things to remember

My history is a lot less interesting and troublesome

I was probably going to work and looking forward to my next day off

Eating lunch and dreaming what will my life be like in the future

Now I know

Much of the same

No fame

Lots of love

With a great imagination larger than life

One that won't stop

As the last line of the record ends

My wife calls to me for the final time

I will be in the car

Are you coming or not

Here I come

Another day I will pick up where I left off

You old sentimentalist! I guess I could be that way too. I used to keep Bob Marley's, but now they are lost somewhere in the house. Nice one.

Off of many sweet memories re energize our daily presence. We just cant let go what became inseparable part of us. That part of history is the most important regardless what has happen in the other wide world news. We have to go forward by livelihood ; otherwise if not ourselves, who will... "As the last line of the record ends...'' - a fantastic line ! Stretches my imagination, since lasts but a temporary..."Another day I will pick up where I left off".

A poem of hope, DREAM ON

Wow, Dream! This is so wonderful! I also love those record player songs and those missing old tastes of food and joys of life. You have re-freshened all those memories of my childhood and adulthood. Even now, I listen to the Radio songs which play old, golden songs that I miss in today's world. Thanks for sharing this wonderful poem.

BillyBuc The news enters my life sometimes like a jagged, sharp top lid of a pea can ready to cut me if I am not careful.I am prepared as I live with passion, trust and a never ending supply of love. A bit cautious and more careful not in fear. I have trouble understanding why so many people constantly hurt others when all I want to do is live life. My wife says that's a good thing you don't think like them. Thank you Bill for being so kind and supportive. I look and make all my effort to live my life around good people with good influences so I can live out the rest of my life. I use to think I could help those bad people and they have a stronger will to do harm than I do good. They always would bring me down instead of me changing them and making the world a better place to live. Unfortunately I have learned to keep my distance out of harms way. I am sad to say I feel I have run away from the people who are in the greatest need. I turn my love, kindness and endless generosity to the elderly in nursing homes who have been affected by age but still treasure the value of life. Have a fulfilling day. I like to think of it as a homemade blueberry pie where all the blueberries keep pouring out the side of each piece. Mm mm so good.

Manatita 44 Music touches me from the inside and works it's way out. It makes me think how could someone with the right rythem, melody and words have such a lasting effect. The artists and musicians carry a thought and express it so well. Why didn't I think of that ?Because they were more in tune and connected with their feelings. Every writing I release I try to do the same thing with the same gusto. Tapping into a hidden world of powerful energy and kindness. Thank you for reading and sharing. Looking back there are so many feelings I enjoy why not rekindle the flame that burns bright all through out the day and late into the night.

Michael-Milec I love the wonderful world of technology and the modern age that we live in. I am very happy to have lived at a time when things were simple and now I can experience both times. Thank you for your continued support and comments. Have a beautiful day.

That is when I often get lost. I still have lots of old records but no player now however I find my favorites on YouTube and then I can just get lost in the music and memories for hours.

Old songs are to be treasured as they can transport us back in time and memory to specific days in our past. We no longer have a record player but still have some old records. We should remedy that situation one way or another.

Peggy Woods Now thanks to technology you are able to go on you tube and search any song and find ones you loved and new ones you have never heard. Play them on the computer and you don't have to buy them and store them. My record player started acting up and I picked up an old one at a yard sale for fifteen dollars. I still love playing the ones I have. Some habits are hard to break. Thank you for reading and sharing. Have a great afternoon.
