Olde and Ancient Buildings
Olde City's made of stone and made of brick,
And ancient Rome used concrete, brick and stone.
A grevious choice were I compelled to pick
Between the olde and ancient--Stand alone
And know that they are empty. Ever own
Such lonely space? Their art and wisdom come
To us and live. And tour guides show us known
And unknown things from mansion and from slum
To grace a table or a wall. So dumb,
We stand before them. newly filled with awe.
Of old or ancient meals we have no crumb.
Know God has placed you here. You never saw
The Roman Senate's gore--be thankful--Nor
The founding fathers' toil. Through Christ we soar.
