On Growing Up (Gracious, Like a Lady)
A Poem About Adolescence and the Mounting Pressure it Brings -
Pressure to Conform, Pressure to Abide, Pressure to Collapse One's Inner Self In Order to Please and In Order Not to Create Any Shock Waves - (Pressure Brought On By Being Institutionalized in a Private Girls' School.)
Living
Gracious like a lady
Actions gracious
(Like a lady)
Emotions gracious

You know where you
(will) stand
Practice becomes habit.

I love the theme of your poem. Thought I would give you a sample poem of mine with a similar view.
Status Quo
Trouble awaits those
who dare to defy social norms
They face the ire of the amoral majority
These people want to control you
They despise people who live differently
Their goal is a community of automatons
We were just talking about this at work yesterday, how it was growing up ... Sit like a lady ... Talk like a lady ... Act like a lady .... I guess that is why I was a 'Tom Boy'!
I'm not gracious like a lady. Conforming is not a strong point with me. I could relate.
