On the occasion of Independence Day

On the occasion of Independence Day: Today it is, 15th of Aug, 2012 !!!!

Today is India’s 66th Independence Day. Early morning when I opened the bedside window in our 7th floor apartment, a beautiful sight was waiting to greet me. It was serene to view the sleepy world beneath blanketed under a fog like misty cover. The contrast of while mist and greenery was breathtaking, and for may be a long 20 minutes I was all hypnotised as the morning cool breeze was blowing sweetly waking me sharp from my night slumber. Time was 5AM.

Never the less, a tranquil starting to a celebration of the country for our 65th day of Independence was indeed quite refreshing for me. Then I sat in my living room leaving all the windows of the apartment open to get brushed in the lap of cool morning breeze with my morning cup of green tea. Some sweet flower fragrance was just flowing to my living room through the French window with the busy chirping of many birds. I decided not to wake up my HOME yet as I wanted to inhale the Independent soul and feel around. Then some thoughts bubble inside with every sip of the green tea which I planned to put down in this hub.

Independence Day celebration should be more significant then just Flag Hoisting and patriotic address in the crowd gathered specially on the occasion. But if we look around then we will see one news item hitting hard is about beefing up of the security system around the whole country. Oh…my God…here we stand today….. tight security among us to celebrate our own Independence Day and against whom? Actually for that matter we tighten out security system in every other small occasion. Festive ambience, decoration, sweets and food, celebration, colours, flowers etc is the elements for any kind of preparation for many special occasions all around the world. And then we tighten our security system. For Olympic and other large scale games/cultural show also we always give utmost importance to tighten our security system. Even the mourning or any serious and sad situation also can’t get past from the safety net spread thoroughly taut and rigid. I have seen that all people around become more nationalistic during these special occasions. But then we can be always bear a value to our own motherland and that again does not mean that we should less respect other country. All the offices, institutes are gearing up with day long programme to be more patriotic (no pun intended) today here in India. Oh again there is no intention to say that everyone is less patriotic in other days. All Green, white and saffron colour Indian National Flag pics are adorning the news paper pages, it feels nice though. And the street here is colourful with tri colour flags today, which is creating quite an Indian panorama altogether in a cool breezy way as they all are flapping hard against the wind to spread more devotion to the special day.

Many political extravaganzas with different announcement will be a usual manifesto for all the powerful people in political arena. The announcement of more hopes for brighter days will float in the air. But I think it would have been much interesting to hear some different party line for instance (may be it can go like this)..a list of last year’s fulfilled promises with available details for a change. It’s only a randomly thrown idea though known quite well to be too impractical.

Many communal dishevel is currently going on in specific areas of Assam with other burning issues. If only we would have been independent of our negative system of corruption. The country, if would have been independent of Health sector problems, education problems, human trafficking, transport bottlenecks, ample power crisis to cripple the normal life, and many other burning issues, it will be Independent Day celebration in truest of sense. A different and more powerful India in true sense would have been much more pleasant. India is growing for sure. Many positive changes are there to count. But we could have achieved much more with our available resources around with proper and systematic utilization. I would have personally liked to see the women folk to get freedom in true sense from much exploitation they have to go through in their everyday life particularly in this part of the world. As my maids always describe uncountable anguish they have to bear from their alcoholic husbands while working hard to meet the demands of their families. So I decided to treat them with sweets and little money in my way to brighten sunny smiles on their face to make them happy at least for a little while on this special day. My dream for Independence from negative things…oh a much rare reality!

Many text messages from family and friends poured in to wish this special day. I reciprocate too. My son (Reet) got second prize in a drawing competition among the children in our community hall where the society of the Apartment observed Independence Day with contributory lunch and meeting arrangements. Everywhere it is, the spirit of India was gripping the mood high. Though the day was very hot but it could not dampen the temper of celebrations.

A beautiful morning to begin with is a symbol that, sure we are heading toward more brilliant side of the age. Still savouring the aroma of the green cup of morning tea with the luxurious beauty of the breezy morning with full sense and yes, now the world around is stepping down under the evening lights of the ensuing night. I will wait for another morning for next year to celebrate our Independence Day and sure will note in the chronicle of mind the changes that we are going to achieve.

‘Happy 66th Independence Day! Hard to win and precious to maintain.’…very rightly said by my dearest friend, Deb Ellair from Columbus, Ohio, USA

Josh thank you for your gracious visit and comment here.

Yes, friend... some times we take available privileges of our life for granted. Then if we get the chance to visualize the less opportune situations then we again start enjoying our life anew.

So you can go ahead and cherish everything available to you, does not matter how small it is but then realize in the process that ..there is some people on earth who don have even the basic essential provisions available to them. India has long way to go ahead in truest of sense..but then I am thankful to God as there are places even backward then us.

Have a good day ahead and sit back and yourself, friend:-)

      Dear Deb,

Words are few here to express my gratitude to your comment. It feels great when friends relate to my work. Yes there is long way to reach the level of your country all inclusive way in India. But whatever we are happy with what we have...and at least many thoughts are there for more progress. One day sure these thoughts will be reality, amen:-)

Your insightful comment is much appreciated.

Brought tears to my eyes. I forget that not all countries have it as good as we do here in the US. Every country has its problems, but to hear you honestly speak of your country's problems and then speak from your heart of your love for Assam and its people is just beautiful. Again, Happy Independence Day and may each year bring more improvements to the whole country and to each of its citizens!
