One Old One New Poem

How It Feels

Caught.

I stare at your lines

softly blurred

at their edge

backlit by the new sun.

I inhale the moment

so sharp and deep

some of it can’t help

but escape from my lips

in tiny nervous puffs.

Swallowed hiccups of laughter

reverberate off my palate

and bounce around my chest

in internal giggles

as your eyes

meet mine.

The cats can see

The cats can see

and I can hear

if anything’s amiss

a fuss or a whimper

He’s dreaming

on the porch, sun

through screen

plays small squares

upon his dimple

I only need to feel

the cool breeze cut

indian summer short

and smell the promise

of the lake retiring

Thank you for this. It is great to be able to read two such beautiful writes so early in the morning.

Always nice to meet a fellow poet, and that you are. I think you captured that feeling quite well, and the cat thing, yes. CC
