One Thing to Offer (poem)

Lo, I’m a different kind of princess,
No golden locks nor rosy cheeks,
I have courage but have lots of fears,
That’s why I brace myself if ever a prince disappears,
In my laughter there’s joy and distress,
Fighting every day in my blood stained dress,
Tears often embrace my weary face at night,
Abiding steadily ‘til my faith becomes sight,
Eyes that cry, melancholic lullabies,
Messy hair, struggles everywhere,
No fancy look, no beauty queen stares
That’s why I am nothing without this one precious thing,

I have Jesus Christ,
The Lord alone is my one precious thing,
So if you’ll take me as your bride,
Know that He already gave me salvation’s ring,
And when you look me in the eye,
The only thing you’ll ever see are all the wrongs that He made right,
So if you’ll take me as your bride,
Know that I’m nothing but darkness if Christ didn’t become my light
But if you’re looking for more
----a perfect woman to adore,
Climb back inside your boat and take your oar,
For I can never be the girl you’re looking for,
But if you’re seeking His face,
And if the Lord leads us to each other,
I know we’ll be together for we only have one thing to offer.
