One foot here and one foot there

Updated on February 26, 2013

l remember...arriving in Britain,

in our summer frock which left

the African sun behind us.,

the memories of woman carrying

their babies tied on their back,

and woman carrying large baskets

of fruit upon their heads...

the last memories of granddad and grandma’s

that lined the lane- with many trees..

and chasing wild baby chicks,

running along the grassy path....

granddad’ s house was huge and grand

with servants who once picked his

pocket... and stole is wallet...

my Granma..grew sugar canes.

We ate fresh from the fields...

It was going to be our last Africa,

And to the studio my mother took us

For a family photo shoot...

Gran ma cried, as we boarded the plane

Said our good byes...

To settle in foreign lands...

As the plane landed in Britain...

It was like fairy land... with all the

Lights at night... and we were so

Amazed.. how we landed from the

Sunny side... with our cotton frocks on...

We shivered in the cold...

To start our new lives in the city

With many bright lights...
