Leonard shivered: “Who are you?” “You don’t remember?” the alien said. “It’s Captain Zachowligopli and Lt. Fu-Cu.” Leonard was perplexed. The names were familiar, but he had no recollection why they were familiar?

Leonard tried to kick, thrash, and fight the mysterious force that surrounded him. But, his limbs betrayed him; he couldn’t even move a finger to protest his situation.

All the while, a white hot light filled his room, enveloping everything inside it. It also masked unseen entities that seared an unbearable pain on his chest and eyes.

The crackles and screeches soon followed. They were blisteringly loud. But, as it continued, his ears became attuned to them. It wasn't long before the din started to sound familiar. From his clouded memories, he recognized it as spoken words.

“Leonard, don’t fight.” He was able to acquire its meaning. But, he disobeyed and struggled more than ever.

The harsh light softened and shapes and figures emerged from the wall of white light. He saw the silhouettes of two beings (one holding something) standing nearby.

... the light became a single plasma beam projected onto his chest. He glanced at the two beings: tall, slender, with big heads, three diamond-shaped eyes, and vertical slits for mouths stood over him. One of them held the orb.

Suddenly, the light became a single plasma beam projected onto his chest. He glanced at the two beings: tall, slender, with big heads, three diamond-shaped eyes, and vertical slits for mouths. They stood over him.

At first, Leonard froze in fear. But, as he shot glances at each individual, their appearances began to register. There was something familiar about them. He breathing racked up to staccatos of quick gasps and exhalations.

“We won’t need this, I assume?” said the alien holding the orb.

The light-bean "retracted" into the orb.And the being removed it from Leonard's line of sight.

Leonard shivered: “Who are you?”

“You don’t remember?” the alien said. “It’s Captain Zachowligopli and Lt. Fu-Cu.”

Leonard was perplexed. The names were familiar, but he had no recollection why they were familiar.

“You’re one of us,” Fu-Cu snapped. “You were sent as reconnaissance for the coming invasion.

Leonard ruminated. Everything was coming back to him. He had been on Earth for years and had assimilated well. Even the disguise felt like the real thing.

“I feel I’m one of them.” He said. “No, I am one of them.”

“No,” Leonard dreaded “I’m human, can’t you see?”

“It’s a disguise,” Fu-Cu added, stepping forward with his orb.

Zachowligopli stopped him: “Not advisable.”

Curiosity took over the captain: “Tell me, Leonorapolia…um…Leonard. What do you mean you are human?”

Leonard ruminated. Everything was coming back to him. He had been on Earth for years and had assimilated well -- maybe too well. Even the disguise felt like the real thing.

“I feel I’m one of them.” He said. “No, I am one of them.”

Zachowligopli sighed; he knew what to do. He pulled out his orb and shot Leonard with a blue light. Leonard's eyes fluttered before he passed out.

“He was my best agent,” he said sadly. "Let's go."

“Isn’t he going with us?”

“No. He is now one of them, just like the others we sent before him. And if we don’t leave, we’ll become like him. These humans are more powerful than they look. The best I can do for him is to erase the memory of our arrival and let him live out his days as a human.”

Zachowligopli turned away. This was not a good day. And, he had too many of these days lately. It was time to call for pick-up. He trudged toward the door, but glanced back when he realized his stubborn partner wasn't following him.

"They'll be hefe soon," he said.

Fu-Cu didn't like this. The realization that Leonard was one of them was unsettling. The idea that the invasion had to be called off was another matter. Although stubborn, Fu-Cu knew that it was over.

"Let's go then," he said as he turned away from Leonard."Let's get as far away as possible."

Within minutes of exiting the home, a brilliant light from above illuminated the two. The two began to rise toward the space-craft. All the while, they realized that they had to leave their comrade -- their former comrade -- behind.

“Let’s go,” he said sadly. “Isn’t he going with us?” “No. He is now one of them, just like the others we sent before him. And if we don’t leave, we’ll become like him. These humans are more powerful than they look.”

Wonderful Flash Fiction tale here Dean. Who knows...this could be more fact than fiction.
