One More Shadow (poem)
My children sleep for I have work to do
This wasn’t what I planned for us at all
It seems we’ve come upon this wasting wall
And we must close our eyes to see it through
-
In some tomorrow this we won’t recall
What I must do to bring some Joy to you
There are some shadows best you never knew
There are some memories we can forestall
-
But one more shadowed deed now waits for me
Take this my kiss to guard you as you sleep
Till shame and I again are by your side
-
It seems so me no safer place to be
For there no strangers ever hear you weep
And from this no safer place to hide
