"Our American Home" by Eric Wayne Flynn

Updated on November 12, 2013

"Our American Home"

Compacted with shit

A bad museum with too much funding

Full of toys for ghosts in the attic

Tangible memories strangled back to life

Our grip grows tighter

We gasp for air

Unable to loosen up

Scared till death

Value packed comfortable coffins

Green grass is only on the other side

Our limited landscape

Complete with idiot tubes big and small

Cabinets full of synthetics

We lick our walls

Developing sores

Gaining wait

Undernourished, under-educated

Held captive

We look out the windows of our American home..waiting for something to happen

In our yard, a see saw balances with the wind, awaiting freedom

Well damn that was my favorite critique I've read of any of my work thus far, thanks Robert, I really appreciate the understanding most of all.

At first, one may feel this piece is mere soap-boxing current anti-establishment pablum, but do not be fooled!! Hope for the future and respect for the past are rife throughout, exposing your "thru the fire mentality" in the work. Smooth, Eric.

Thanks Brian, thinking is a lost art, one that you excel at, it's evident in your writings.

My see saw has tipped on the side of the fence with no house. So, I play in the others yard. Very interesting write, you get me thinking and that's all this reader can ask.

Thanks Jodah, we all do, I am no exception. We must do our best to not let our possessions possess us.

I always find your poems interesting Eric. this is no exception.....very insightful and I think a lot of us can relate to it. I have got so much shit in my place that I need to do something about 'one day'.
