Our Lives, Like a River

Updated on June 19, 2017

Our lives are much like a river

Running fast and running deep

While we are each awake

And while we all do sleep

Chasing dreams as butterflies

Ours we each may keep

Making wishes on starry nights

Upon the moon to leap

Every dream is a treasure chest

Never to reveal or to show

Our own special fantasy held

And just for us to know

Every day that passes by

One more we survive

Challenges may be greater yet

As the world does thrive

There is a higher power than

To see that we may live

Gives us all a strongest heart

There's no finer gift to give

When we fall we get back up

Made stronger every turn

The facts of life are to be learned

At every chance we earn

The river of life runs long and deep

Promises of success it may not keep

But never there to be said not a try

No matter the mountain or how steep

As we pace ourselves day in day out

We may have to alter to change our route

The end results are not ours to blame

A determination is the name of the game

You've reminded us of the facts of life that we all must experience. Thanks for also reminding us of that "higher power" -God who remains in control.

I really envy you being raised on that river my friend. I too was raised near a river and spent many happy days there. Blessings to you and family.whonu

I understand the symboligy I hope. But I was partially raised on the Mighty Colorado of the Grand Canyon. I do not know when her spirit became one with my belief in God. But I do know that a river is part of my soul.

Thank you for bringing me there and back.
