- Books, Literature, and Writing
The title of this post is also the title of a book my friend Steve and I are working on. It is a combination of Steampunk, military science fiction, survival and love. A little bit of everything for everyone.
The book was a concept that came about from a character in Steve's book , which I will be doing a review of soon. The character is a writer and one of his stories is Outrunning Perdition. Steve and I talked about actually writing the story and he graciously asked me to co-write it with him. A Promise and a Price
He is writing the story of the Citadel. The Citadel is a town almost in the fashion of the Old West. The Citadel is made up of people called Hard Men. They were sent to the planet by Omniverse to get it ready for three waves of settlers. When the settlers didn't come, the Hard Men took the city.
I am writing the story of the Palisades. The Palisades was the area where the Hard Men lived before taking over the Citadel. At the beginning of the story it is made up of boys and men who were exiled from the Citadel.
I wasn't sure how co-writing would go. Steve and I have two very distinct personalities and our ways of thinking can often times clash. We also have two very different writing styles. What I have found, so far at least, is that because we are so different, it is actually making what we are writing even better. We are complimenting each others writing. I think it is also important that while we are writing the same story, we are writing two separate stories within the same story. We are able to use our own voices to give the characters, who have lived far different life styles, voices of their own.
I think this is going to be an interesting time and I'll share more of it as we go.
