Day in the Woods

Updated on September 12, 2017

My visit to the wooded tract always a favorite of mine,

The quiet solitude I find gives me a peace hard to find.

That occasional chirp or hoot adds to the feeling of joy,

This fine sanctuary I've found, my stressed life I employ.

The rare deer that slips by my side, the wild birds I see,

Help build enjoyment I feel, as I'm counting every tree.

The sweet scent of wild flowers, that of pines and of soil,

Bring a richness to the scene, help release my life of toil.

Happy squirrels and chipmunks all play, up in trees and below,

Such a wonderful environ in which to be alive, this it does show.

Flights of butterflies and bees all gather there, just to socialize,

Every bad thought once a part of me is gone, as away it all flies.

Turtles rambling and frogs jumping in the creek, to my surprise,

A world of beauty now to be my own, there right before my eyes.

Then a delightful breeze greets my nose, reminding me of home,

Back in the times of my growing up, was before my urge to roam.

As each step taken is all so treasured in my visit to the wood,

Moments spent to await in my mind, as each one so should.

Upon my return to those busy days, working for powers to be,

All the while, I'll keep in my thoughts, of my own sweet journey.

I'll always return to those precious woods, walking every trail,

They'll be there in my dreams at night, to find without any fail.

Creatures to greet, every sighting my own, never to be erased,

Only a sign that there's truly a God, for us all to be so graced.

I picture heaven much like the wooded forest with animals and critters of all kinds roaming freely. Your poem is a perfect description and the photos are so amazing. I'll be moving to such a place next week (not heaven, the woods) :) Thank you.
