POETRY-LOSING SOMEONE CLOSE

Updated on January 31, 2012

I didn't get the chance

To tell you good-bye

These tears of deep surrender

I can no longer hide

No one can take your place

The way you taste, the smile on your face

The only fact that comes to mind

No way you can ever be replaced

This love we shared through all these years

Nothing else could ever compare

The way you held me through the night

Your fingers running through my hair

I really can't believe your gone

As I sit here and listen to our wedding song

Baby I am pacing all night long

When all is right it seems so wrong

Just promise me you'll visit

If only in my dreams

It would mean the world to me

To me you meant everything

As I lie awake here writing

This tender note to you

I'm finally able to realize

Everything that you do

For me, the kids, and your family

For friends, someone you just met

The kindness of your heart

We will never ever forget

To me you were the morning sun

The Earth, the moon, my star

Know you'll be missed and I love you

Wherever you are near or far

And even though I didn't tell you enough

Our hearts were built on trust

And even though sometimes were tough

Nothing could ever break our love

So goodnight to you my dear

For only tonight we now part

Til the end of my road, I'll see you soon

You always own .... the key to my heart.

ya. that's the problem with self publishing. All sorts of horror stories. Feeding on people's dreams and whatnot

Oh yeah? I haven't messed with them that much, but that is bull you had to pay to have it published. Sounds like a scam to me also.

i did a poem for poetry.com a decade ago, and then I had to pay to have it published. I kind of think they're a scam, and they don't get good reviews online. do a Google search :-)

Good morning, LW my friend!! Let me tell you something. The is one suPERB poem if it was written by a man who had lost his wife. The fact that you wrote it for a FRIEND and am able to still capture the heartache and loneliness of his existence boggles my mind. Nikki is right...there's no such thing as too much or too soon. You, Sir, are the BOMB!!

Perfect wording Nikki. I told myself, this wouldn't be me. I will say what I need to say today as if it was my last night. I tell my wife and kids how much I love them everyday. Very well stated Nikki.

you can never tell someone you love them enough. and sometimes we wait till its too late, don't wait til their gone to tell someone how you feel. don't realize what you have once their gone, realize it while they are still there.

Thank you all for your wonderful comments. I appreciate them all very much. Denise, I haven't added music to this one just yet because I was trying to write an appropriate chorus. I thank you for asking though. I have been writing articles so much lately that I have put my music on the back burner.

You definitely have a way with words and can instill deep meaning into your poetry. Glad to hear that this is not a personal loss...but many surely have felt the feelings you expressed in this poem. Rating this useful as a reminder to everyone not to take life for granted.

lyricwriter, I have done the same thing myself. I've done my best writing inside someone else's head, so I understand. I can't write poetry anymore, since I'm no longer occupying the head of anyone else. it's hard enough to keep up with myself, LOL.

Poetic Fool, I am honored, as I do know you enjoy poetry as well. I did want to convey my friends every emotion as I watched him. It is hard doing that, but this piece is to offer people some sort of closure. For someone that didn't get to say "I love you" or "good-bye". I appreciate your concern, but I wish you can understand by reading the comment above. God Bless.

WannaB Writer, thank you so much for your comment. I do appreciate your concern, but I didn't lose someone personally. I wrote this poem for a friend. I do this a lot to be honest to capture the moment. It is a gift that God gave me. I put myself in his shoes and my words feed off his every move. We all will experience pain like this at some point in time. Through my poetry, I would like to show how important life is and why it is important to never waiste one single moment. I appologize if I mislead you in anyway but my attentions were pure. I can appreciate the fact that you felt the power of the poem. For myself, it makes it worthwhile. Thank you and God Bless.

This brought tears to my eyes. I'm sorry you had to go through this. I know I'd feel that way if anything happened to my husband. And I'm at the age now where I need to face the fact I could lose him any time. It's easy to take those we love for granted -- until they are gone.
