Pandora's Box - The Price of Curiosity
Having someone who makes you smile and make you feel loved is the greatest gift of all – priceless and irreplaceable.
Pandora means "the gift of all gods" because she was bestowed with every gift from all gods and goddesses of Mt. Olympus and along with it was the gift of curiosity. She was then presented to be the wife of Epimetheus, the brother of Prometheus - the man who stole fire from Zeus. Then Pandora was given a box and made her promise not to open it.
A Valentine Special
Anyone who heard or read the story of Pandora and her gift box from Zeus would likely to say "if she wasn’t that curious, those evil things not known to man long ago wouldn’t have escaped from the box".
But due to her curiosity, she was able to free evil, hatred, sickness and anger into the world. But thankfully, the box does not only contain all evil... because there's still Hope.
Curiosity killed the cat - there goes the popular saying. But for what happened to me, curiosity killed the surprise.
And here's my story.
A week before Valentine’s Day, I happened to open the email account of my BFF and do my usual routine of clearing spams on his inbox, which I think I do every once in awhile. He doesn’t have time to unsubscribe on the emails spamming his inbox and requested my help now and then. I really don't expect any unusual emails that time but there's one thing caught my eye.
I opened the email from an online store acknowledging that his order was approved.
So I thought that it’s unlikely of him to do online ordering because first, he doesn't open the email account, second, he doesn't purchase gift items online.
It was an expensive container set deal and I was wondering why he would need such thing. So I called him up and asked if anyone used his credit card or if he really purchased that thing.
He said "No, why would I need a container?”
I was really worried that someone tried to use his credit card without permission. I browsed through the online store and look for a container set deal with the same price.
And to my really big surprised, it wasn't a container set deal at all. The set contained two boxes of chocolate with a large teddy bear for Valentine’s Day.
It was supposed to be a Valentine's Day surprise to be delivered to me.
So finally he gave up and honestly admitted sending some gifts on heart's day so even if we're million miles away from each other, I will always remember that he loves me more than ever and that I am his only princess and love.
He laughed and said if I wasn’t peeping, he would love to see my reaction on Valentine's Day when I received that gift. Well, I guessed that if can turn back that little five minutes, I would not open that little private email of him.
So out flew the big surprise.
But hey, it doesn’t matter anymore. I was really in shock that he would take the time to browse thru stores to find the perfect gift for me since he already gave me a bunch of gifts not to mention the large boxes of chocolates, cute pillows (since my sister said my hobby is sleeping) and especially the necklace with a heart and the engraved word “Love” so that I will always bring his love with me wherever I go.
The morning of Valentine’s Day came sweetly to my life. I put the necklace, grab the chocolates for dessert and head straight to work.
So now came the big box delivered straight to my desk before lunch time. So now that I know what’s inside, it was already less surprising. Oh boy, I was so wrong!
I opened the big box and came out half a dozen fresh red roses, two cards and a teddy bear plus a note saying it was his first time to give someone these kinds of gifts on special day and that he was really nervous and very much excited.
I read again his letter to me saying he will always be there for me no matter what happens and I will always be his only princess for the rest of his life. It may sound a little bit cheesy for others to hear but for me, it's the sweetest thing that a guy could say to his girl.
Though we're spending Valentine's Day thousands of miles apart, I know that we're still with each other on our minds and hearts. I am so blessed for having this sweetest boy in my life.
It makes my unperfect life very perfect.
