Patience – 20th Word in the "Good Word" Project. (Poem)

Updated on June 20, 2014

Creation of the 'Good Word' project

The "Good Word" Project, was created by Jo_Goldsmith11, to help her/our fellow hubbers practice words of encouragement and inspiration, to promote good will and to bring recognition to unknown writers on this site.

When Jo first told me about this project, I told her I would write a poem for each "Good Word" she gave us each week. I am a little behind, but you will see I will keep that Promise.

20th Good Word

Patience, is the 20th "Good Word," in this project. Be patient with me as I continue to write a poem for each 'Good Word' given to us each week, by fellow hubber Jo_Goldsmith11. Thank you Jo for these 'Good Words' for guidance and inspiration.

This is Patience to me.

I drew this in 1986, from a picture my cousin had of my 95 year old grandmother. I drew it on a canvas to paint with oils. Before I began to paint I took a picture of it and I am so glad I did. I ruined the drawing while trying to mix the paint.

When I think of patience, I can only think of my grandmother "Mammaw" who had more patience than anyone can imagine.

My Mammaw raised five children, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Patience

by Shyron Shenko © 6/14/2014

I have been told so many times patience is a virtue

By someone who had the patience of a saint

Her endurance was tested all the time

By the most impatient children’s whine

She had the fortitude to see us through

The roughest times

As she taught us to be patient

And soothed each petty little whine

If patience could describe someone

I know just who it would be

Someone who loved her Lord and Savior

And taught us all to love Him same as she

If you could measure patience

I am sure that you would see

Patience would reach all the way to Heaven

That is where my Grandma will be

If awards were given out for patience

My Grandma would have won a prize for every year

For ever heartache she suffered

For every single tear

For each and every one of us

I know that she has cried

Until patience brought her peace

When each tragedy would subside

I know she will be compensated

For every single tear she shed

For the patience she has shown

With every word she said

Patience really is a virtue

To this I can attest

Because my grandma Etta

Had the most patience, she was the very best

Rest
in Peace Grandma "Mammaw"

I will always love you!___Shyron, or as you sometimes called me Sirene.

I'm glad you took a picture of the drawing you made of your "Mawmaw", too, Shyron. It's a beautiful drawing, as is your tribute to her as your ideal of patience.

I often think that truly patient people have a great wellspring of love inside them that they call upon to overcome those moments when we ordinary mortals tend to 'lose it.' I've tried, throughout my adult life, to become more patient because it is not a virtue that's ever come natural to me. Thankfully, I've had some success...but I'll never be in the class with your beloved grandma.

Voted Up and Beautiful/Shared (because who among us doesn't need to be patient?)

      Jaye

P.S. Shyron, it's obvious that you inherited your sweet spirit from your grandma. I know she would be very proud of you.

What an incredible drawing! I like the poem too, and it's a wonderful tribute to Mammaw. My own mother had the greatest patience, both with people and animals, but my own patience is limited -- maybe because there were 5 of us and I only got 1/5. ;) Still, I have more patience than many people or I wouldn't be able to do what I do.

Voted up and BAI, pinned to AH, and shared!

I am glad you are displaying your drawings, they are really good! Your poetry is a beautiful tribute to your Mammaw. ( BTY That's what my grandchildren call me. ) I think this is my favorite. " If you go swim in the blue hole and drown..) made me lol, reminded me of something my mother would say...

      Loving tribute, dear Shyron.

You are a true artist with that amazing drawing and I am so happy you did take a photo of it. You are also an artist with words, so encouraging and inspirational indeed.

Thank you for sharing about your precious "Mammaw" ... in your beautiful poem on patience. I am reminded of my sweet mother, who was the most patient person on this planet I have ever known.

      Blessings for a lovely Sunday

You wrote a lovely poem about how she showed great forms of yielding and leniency to handle those children. Patience is love because it is in the heart.

Jaye, thank you for the compliment and kind words, also the thumbs up and sharing.

I believe you are right, people with patience have a great capacity for loving everyone and everything. I never heard her say an unkind word to or about anyone. I and my brothers, cousins and anyone who knew her were fortunate to have met her, loved her.

Most of the hubbers who have become friends (you are included) are special like my grandma, and each reminds me in some way of her.

And for that I am truly grateful.

Au fait, I think you have a lot of patients. At least that is what I saw when we worked for that place that was like a prison with the bridge for the guards to march back and forth in case you tried to escape to the restroom without permission.

I am glad you and i both escaped.

Thank you for the thumbs up, votes up, pin and for sharing

This is absolutely beautiful@! I love this blog because Patience was embodied by my own Grandma and now my Mom. That drawing captures the unconditional love your grandma must have had for all of her family. She seemed like an anel on Earth and your poem was a great tribute to her. Thank you for sharing this.

My patience has all but worn out, I think. I'm so tired of the struggle and getting nowhere. I would never have the patience to cut all that grass in the heat with the sun beating on me like you do.

Hope all is well there and that the sun hasn't done you in. Take care . . .

Au fait, I do understand, this kind of heat thins the skin and patience. I am just about done in from the blazing sun, has just about done me in and burned me to a crisp.

Hope you are well and not overheated

Patience is definitely required in today's world pretty much all the time. I have more now that it's cooled off a little. Science has proven that people lose their tempers and become violent more easily when it's so, so hot.

This is such a great poem. Sharing it again . . .

Hope all is well there. Take care . . .

This drawing of your grandmother is nothing short of incredible and amazing and if this is how she really looked at 95, she certainly looked young for her age!

Patience is indeed a virtue and I think more things would go well or at least better if we all had patience with each other. Very often, if only allowed to do so, time solves many problems.

Sharing as always. Hope all is well with you and John. Take care . . .

Must say your grandmother looked pretty young for 95. I'm glad you took a photo before painting it too. I think there's a way to take paint off of canvas without damaging what's under it. They do that sometimes when they find someone has painted over a painting done by a more important painter.

Sharing this. Patience is a virtue and I've had to have a lot of patience these last few months. For some reason a lot of people mistake patience for weakness. Really, it takes more strength.

      Take care . . .

Au fait, thank you for the comments and for sharing. Yes Mamaw did look you in person also. It was a clean canvas and I drew the portrait the took a picture of the drawing. Yes I cleaned the paint off the canvas but the drawing was in pencil so it came off also.

You have more patience than I. I would not mistake patience for weakness ever. I don't think I could go through what you have been through and I hope I never have to.

Blessings and hugs my dear, dear friend
