The loneliness of pearled moments

pulls

at the edges

of heart’s most tender door,

to color its trim

a bright blue

of whispered promises.

Promises of dreams unraveled,

unaided in their story

of dreams laid down

in perfect cadence

like Botts’ dots

on freeways pointed toward freedom,

measured precisely.

And as I measure the distance between,

I press the distance of faces

of those most missed

into memory.

I frame their faces on the corridors of time’s face

and wonder how

to reposition

the points of stars

framing my dreams

to include their new lives.

Separate.

And I know this is as it must be.

We wish we could really have those pearl moments again...and when we have them, we seldom cherish them. Such is the irony of life! Thanks Audrey!

Beautiful words of hope, promise and the reality of life as it goes on.

I especially loved the opening lines describing the opening of the heart and the pearl. In my spiritual practice the Pearl represents the Soul within and the Heart opening is the experience necessary to connect with all-within ourselves and with the world around us.

      Many blessings.

Audrey - So poignant and lovely. As I read it, I think of so many missed, too many gone from Earth, but some who still live but who are entangled in illness or weighty concerns & cannot be near. Your conclusion is wise:

". . .Separate. And I know this is as it must be. . . " ~ for is it not so, that, as Gibran says:

"You were born together, and together you shall be forevermore.

You shall be together when the white wings of death scatter your days.

Ay, you shall be together even in the silent memory of God.

But let there be spaces in your togetherness,

And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.

Love one another, but make not a bond of love:

Let it rather be a moving sea between the shores of your souls.

Fill each other's cup but drink not from one cup.

Give one another of your bread but eat not from the same loaf

Sing and dance together and be joyous, but let each one of you be alone,

Even as the strings of a lute are alone though they quiver with the same music.

Give your hearts, but not into each other's keeping.

For only the hand of Life can contain your hearts.

And stand together yet not too near together:

For the pillars of the temple stand apart,

And the oak tree and the cypress grow not in each other's shadow."

I will never look at Botts Dots the same way again! What a beautiful and clever poem.... I can relate, sometimes pondering those I let go or that let go of me.... So very glad I stoped to read this. I can feel it burrowing into a little place in my heart where I keep poems like these.
