Percy Jackson: The Sea of Monsters

Updated on November 25, 2013

The First Book

Before this, Rick Riordan had also written "Percy Jackson And The Olympians: The Lightning Thief. It is a really good too and a must-read. Highly Recommended by me!

In this books, Percy Jackson is just another normal boy, a loser actually, who gets kicked out of each school he goes to. Percy is dyslexic, has ADHD, and certainly he thinks he's a kind of nerd. But that is his thinking until he finds out that he's the son of Poseidon, the Sea-God in Greek Mythology. It seems as though all the horrific monsters and all the Gods from his Greek Mythology textbook have come to life.

And what's worse. The Gods are Angry! Zeus's master weapon, his lightening bolt is missing and he believes that Percy is the one who stole it. Poseidon on the other hand is angry that Zeus believes that his son stole his weapon. Hades, the lord of the underworld, is plotting against his two older brothers when they are too busy fighting. Hades wants the lightening bolt. He wants to rule Olympus. But before his plans succeed, Percy has to stop him.

But Over at Camp-Half-Blood (The Safest Place for any demigod on Earth) Luke Castellan, who Percy believed was a friend of his, is trying to bring Olympus down by bringing Kronos, the Titan-Lord back to power. And if Luke does bring him back to power, that would mean the end of the world...

Percy doesn't know anything, doesn't know what he has gotten himself into. It's a mystery to him, a winding maze, will he ever solve it?

To find out the answer for that, buy the book from the Amazon website at the bottom of this article.

Percy Jackson: The Sea of Monsters

The Sea of Monsters is the second book in the best-selling novel series "Percy Jackson and the Olympians" by Rick Riordan. It has all the humor, all the action that anybody is looking for in a novel.

It has a really good, gripping story-line which always makes you feel that you still haven't had enough of it. It is funnily told, great jokes, awesome monsters.

And of course, packed with breathtaking action from the beginning to the end...

The Movies

Two Movies have already been made on those two books.

The Lightening Thief movie (I think) was released in 2011.

And,

The Sea of Monsters was released in 2013.

In both the movies, the main roles of Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase and Grover Underwood were played by Logan Lerman, Alexandra Daddario and Brandon.T.Jackson respectively.

The first movie was directed by Ian Softley.

And the second movie was directed by Thor Freudenthal.

The Plot

Now let me explain the plot of the book, "The Sea of Monsters"

Percy Jackson has now started off in a new school which so far has not been so bad. He has a new best friend(actually he's the first one) in the mortal world and his name is Tyson. Tyson is tall, extremely dirty and unorganized guy who lives in a refrigerator box on some New York Street. Tyson still acts like a 5 year old and cries at every small accusation fired at him.

Percy's life is completely normal, until the day when some new guys come up to the school. They're taller than Tyson and have huge biceps like wrestlers.

They are friends of the school bully. The bully challenges Percy to a Volleyball Match. And that volleyball match turns into complete disaster. The new guys at school are actually Laestrygonians. Kind of Half-Giants.Percy and Tyson fight the monsters together and Percy notices something strange about him, Tyson doesn't burn, the fire doesn't damage him.

Annabeth Chase, Percy's best friend from Camp-Half Blood rushes to his aid and escorts them back to Camp in the Gray Sisters taxi. The Gray Sisters tell them strange numbers, "30, 31, 25,12" which make no sense to him.

Back at the camp though, the security is flailing. Thalia's tree which protected the Camp from any monsters had been poisoned and was now dying. Chiron, the centaur and the activities director of the camp is believed to be the prime suspect and therefore he was fired and Tantalus, the man who had returned from the underworld, was made the new activities-director.

Percy gets another price when Poseidon claims Tyson as his own son and that made Percy his half-brother. Another surprise for Percy, he finds that Tyson isn't human, he is a cyclops...

But he had more mounting worries, the camp was being regularly attacked by monsters. The camp had to be saved and Percy knew what would save the camp and that was "The Golden Fleece" It was reported lost inside the sea of monsters, a place we mortals regularly refer to as the "Bermuda Triangle"

But Luke Castellan, the enemy of Olympus and the worshipper of Kronos needs the Fleece too as it is the only thing which can bring Kronos back from Tartarus.

Percy and his friends have a lot of action awaiting them, loads of monsters, some of them as big as the sea itself! Nowhere is safe when you're a demigod. Even the most innocent looking people cannot be trusted.

Percy is tested again, he has to save the world again, beat Luke to the clock, fight a deadly Cyclops, save his friend Grover, retrieve the fleece, fight Kronos himself...

But can he make it?

His Percy Jackson and the Olympians series features a twelve-year-old who discovers he is the modern-day son of the ancient Greek god, Poseidon. Twentieth Century Fox purchased the film rights and released a feature film February 12, 2010. Following the success of Percy Jackson, Rick Riordan created The Kane Chronicles, which features a modern-day Egyptian pantheon and two new sibling protagonists. Riordan plans to publish another series based on Norse mythology in 2015.
