Personas
When it comes to thinking about my persona, I would first say that I don’t have one, seeing as I am not really in the spotlight, or public eye. I would always think that only celebrities have “stage personalities”, or someone they pretend to be on camera as opposed to off. It turns out that I am incorrect, however, because it seems like everyone has some sort of alter-ego, or version of themselves that they like to project to the world. All humans are actors, I’ve realized.
For me personally, (ha, personally) I used to think it was a bad thing to not always be the same around everyone you meet. Like you would be lying if you weren’t always true to yourself. I still believe that to some extent, but it isn’t always the case. For example, around my friends I am loud, I sometimes say curse words, and I can talk to them about things that are personal. However, around, say, my parents, I am more reserved and calm, which is not a bad thing at all because it is out of respect. Just because you show different versions of yourself to different people does not mean you don’t know who you truly are, in fact I think it means you do even more so because you know exactly when and where to use which specific persona.
In conclusion, to say that one doesn’t have a persona would be a lie. To say that having a persona is a bad thing, or that it means someone is “fake” would also be a lie. Life is like a movie, and humans simply just really know how to play their roles.
