John has been writing poetry since his school days. He was awarded "Poet of the Year 2014" Hubby Awards and has had two poems become songs.

Contradictions

Fast food

Slow lanes

Dark thoughts

Bright ideas

False truths

True lies

Happy meals

Angry birds

Hard drives

Soft landings

Hearts are broken

Eyes are fixed.

Everything's a contradiction,

But love endures.

A Walking Contradiction

I'm a walking contradiction

A talking drug addiction.

I'm no expert at good diction

But I like to write short fiction.

And always show conviction

Despite life's constant friction.

Many creatures face extinction

As portrayed in movie depictions,

Of rented house evictions.

Oh what a dereliction!

Not a potato in sight
Not a potato in sight

Potatoes

Potatoes are so versatile,

Roasted, mashed or fried.

Bake them whole within their skins,

Or on top of cottage pies.

Spanish omelettes and potato bakes,

Or ammo for a spud gun.

French fries, or chip potatoes

To eat if on the run.

I can't get by without them,

To me essential food.

Give me the humble potato,

I'm always in the mood.

      It is so encouraging Minnetonka,

When someone comments that my poetry touches them or means something special to them. Thanks for your comment and votes.

You know, don't you, that you have a rare talent for a combination of light airiness with deep, profound meaning? It's so rarely that I can honestly hit all the accolade buttons, but this collection did it for me!

I love them all, but the first one really grabbed my attention. It's not only 'springy' but really makes one think! The little one about the chicken is hilarious and the last one is very deep.

It's so refreshing to see that Jodah's published a hub and to KNOW it will be well worth visiting! Good work!!

      Wow Nellieanna,

That's certainly high praise coming from you. I'm truly honored. Thanks for the continued encouragement.

Jodah, I do want you to be encouraged, but it is because you're really THAT good! I'm not an inveterate do-gooder who tries to encourage every writer who's not getting enough attention, by any means. I was pleased and proud to recommend you to a few of my hubber friends, because I knew you wouldn't disappoint!

Other than when some other hubber asked me to, I've only ever done that one time of my own volition previously; - and it was for my beloved stepson, but only because he happens to be very good too. He's been on a lengthy leave from Hubpages, but his site speaks for itself. He's at: http://hubpages.com/@empiremike

Nellieanna, I checked out Mike's profile and the hubs Redeemed By An Angel and Reach/ Touch. He is a great writer. I'm privileged you consider me that good also. I've got the hub bug and can't stop writing new ones. t's good to have my inspiration back.

Yes, Michael is very talented and it often gets lost in the shuffle of living. He's also a phenomenal photographer and lives in Colorado, where there is much beauty to capture.

It was a good mutual exchange when he was active on Hubpages. I hope he'll return. Thank you for reading and letting me hear your response.

I so understand writing constantly when the writing bug bites! But I never fret if it doesn't, knowing it will always return! I do seem to get carried away writing comments on people's hubs all the time, though. Sometimes people say they could be hubs themselves, but that's not how they ARE. They're timely responses to someone's hub or even an e-mail. They're not written to be something else. haha.

(ps - He truly did shower me with praise in that one hub, and I appreciate it; but that wasn't why I recommended him to you, though it could seem it was! I had to go over there and check what you'd mentioned reading. blush.)

      Jodah,

I read your recent hub requesting feedback about potential submissions to contests.

I gravitate towards your poetry/ creative writing because it's quirky and thought provoking. This is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. Your work is never predictable.

It's cool this gentleman is giving you such specific feedback. I respect your diligence and I am keeping fingers and toes crossed that some of your stellar work is accepted. I know at some point soon it will be...I believe in you. Have a beautiful day. Hugs, Maria

What a nice thing to say Maria. I do try to keep my writing diverse. I often have no idea what I am going to write about next, it is rarely planned and often happens on the spur of the moment. I am not easily discouraged, so I am just taking the publisher's feedback as a learning experience. I don't want to be seen as a typical technical but boring writer, I want to be "quirky and thought provoking" as you kindly said. I am often bored easily, and I don't want to do that to others. I really appreciate this comment. Have a great day yourself.
