Don't Cry For Me

Updated on March 12, 2016

Forgive, forget, act like it never happened

People do that when they care, so they say

But each and every time I tried

I was only left to cry, not fully understanding why

Oh, but there’s no one to blame

And no one’s keeping score or playing games

Sometimes life is just that way

Please, don’t cry for me when Heaven calls my name

Forget whatever it is you did or didn’t do, all the things you didn’t say

Those things you wish that you could change

Don’t be sad, I loved you just the same

Someone told me once, don’t ever silence yourself

So hear me now, hear me loud and clear

There’s a reason that we all were here

I’m so glad our lives have crossed

If I loved you once, in my heart you’ll always be held dear

Nothing in Heaven or on Earth can make that feeling disappear

Please, don’t cry for me when Heaven calls my name

Forget whatever it is you did or didn’t do, all the things you didn’t say

Those things you wish that you could change

Don’t be sad, I loved you just the same

Oh, don’t you ever doubt my love

Even if you turned your back

I learned to accept some things are beyond my control

But love, it always rises above

Please, don’t cry for me when Heaven calls my name

Forget whatever it is you did or didn’t do, all the things you didn’t say

Those things you wish that you could change

Don’t be sad, I loved you just the same

Thank you, Eric. I know too many separated from loved ones for various reasons of the past. It's often so unnecessary and heartbreaking at times. Nonetheless, love is love. :)

I was thinking the same thing ...your poem would make a great song!

I love the repeated verse or chorus.

      Really beautiful, Shan.

Aw, thank you, beautiful Faith. This one is from my heart. I started thinking about it awhile back but only recently put it into words. How many times do we say we wish we had done this or we feel bad about not doing that after someone has passed away?

Ed, such a sweet thing to say. Thank you. I'm so glad it's meaningful to you.

That's a photo from a few years ago. Actually, around November of 2012, because that was after the fire and in a temporary rent home. What a sassy expression, huh? LOL

I also remember that was in the kitchen. I was cooking and left the room to go do something for one of my younger kids. My oldest made a thanksgiving video message to the world that started off with, "Everybody loves their mother." He left it for me to find when I returned. Thanks for the memory reminder!

Hahaha. Thanks. Maybe I'm the lucky mom. Like most parents, I often feel I fall short in so many areas.

Your lines have a beautiful flow. The words hit home because so many people come in and out of our lives. People grow apart and even family can go years without talking. So sad when there was so much fun and love between each other. You covered alot of areas and so many feelings. Hope you have a beautiful weekend.

this is a beautiful collection of thoughts. I was a singer-songwriter many moons ago and I too see the potential for this to be set to music. Your heart is beautifully expressed in these words. Blessing to you :)

Any progress on making this a song. I think it would make an interesting country song. What do you think ? How would you do that? I would be so thrilled. You would be the first songwriter I know.

Thanks! I have written a few, actually. But always just as the lyricist for the most part. This one I sent for review and consideration at a company in Nashville that finds songs for artists and movies and such. They have music writers on staff that work with lyricists, so we shall see. So far no word.

Shanmarie, This is beautiful and I love it. I am glad you sent this to have a musician put it to music. Please don't ever give up.

I sent my hub "American Idol" American Idol but did not get my grandson chosen, but he is singing opera now and would not fit in American Idol.

      Blessings my friend.

Great poem Shanon, I wouldn't cry for you but I'd miss you too. By the way, I've put music to a couple of hubbers here. Do you have one that you'd want me to do? Contact me in "fan mail."

Hi word. You just made me laugh. Thanks. I don't guess you know me well enough to cry for me. LOL. But I appreciate that I'd be missed.

Sorry it took so long to reply. I just now saw your post. HP labeled it as spam for some reason and I had to fix that, of course.

What do you mean? You've put the poems of HP members to music? You know I'm always interested in that.

Hi shanon, 1st of all, your poem was titled "Don't Cry For Me" so, that's the only reason why I said I wouldn't cry, whether I knew you well or not.. 2ndly, I've put music to poems by manatita and Joda. However, I don't discuss music business here. Thank you

Don't mind me, word, I have a weird sense of humor sometimes. I know what you meant and I do appreciate your kindness. I'll contact you for more info outside of HP then. Thanks.
