Poem About Butterflies

Updated on May 27, 2012

Butterflies

Butterflies flutter by

Through my eyes

I watch them die

One by one

All at a time

Drowning in

This heart of mine

Background

Occasionally I like to experiment with writing really short poems, with short lines and a lot of rhyming. I don't specifically remember the situation or thoughts surrounding the birth of this poem, which is unusual as usually I can remember just by reading something when and where I was when I came up with it. The only thing I can remember about this one is that I was thinking it up in my head while in a vehicle, either driving somewhere or riding the school bus. That's one reason it's so short; I could only remember so much of a poem at once before I got the chance to write it down.
