Love Obsessed with Keeping the Secret of My Love Obsession

Updated on July 19, 2017

A creative writer at heart, Janis was first published at age 11. Most of her poems express core issues of love, loss, trauma, and healing.

Obsessed Love Triangles are Common in Relationships

Thoughts of conflict occupy our minds when we're love-obsessed. It's even worse when caught up in a love triangle.

Preoccupied About Love

This poem about obsession speaks loudly of a secret place many love-obsessed people reside: in their heads. The long stares, eyes peering through cubicle cracks, followed by lunchtime daydreams, are all manifestations of the secret love obsessions we can never put into words.

Our nights are full of dreams where we live out our love obsessions in the privacy of our living quarters, sometimes with our beloved partners lying beside us. Our daytime doodling and aimless surfs on the web vacillate between focus and distraction, as we obsess about the objects of our love.

It's easier to live out the fantasy in one's head rather than to constantly yearn for that which is unattainable. Although the harsh whiplash of our situations snaps us back to reality, we can't let go. The obsession itself ends up providing the thrill, through the act of fantasizing in our minds. After a time, we learn to accept the reality that love obsessions are best lived out and experienced as secret fantasies.

Our Obsessive Thoughts Remain Secrets

We maintain our obsessive thoughts about love and admiration in our heads for safe keeping.

"Obsession"

Can't get you off my mind

Like a favorite scent

Lingering in the air

Far past the time we've spent

In my head I see your face

I see I'm going crazy

Like a film that can't turn off

Going in and out of hazy

Bringing us together

An image of secret meetings

Obsessing about the times

We embrace with warm greetings

My reality is so warped

I pretend it's all so real

I anticipate the time

When you tell me how you feel

I know that in due time

I will be forced to accept

Obsession is a secret

That's better off well-kept

Interestingly, this reminded me more of the beginning of my relationship with my wife-to-be. New love is like an obsession, and can be very intoxicating. As I read the last stanza it made me very grateful that I will be marrying my obsession next year.

      Voted up, beautiful!

Nicholas, OMG, that was a beautiful comment. It really removes the scandalous connotation from this piece and shows that true love and happiness can emerge from obsessive love. I'm so happy for you and your upcoming nuptials. Thank you so much for stopping by and reading this poem hub. I appreciate the vote up, too.

Hi Jan Obsessive love can be a downer, if you let it get to you. It happened to me once at a young age. Your poem expresses it well, especially with the ending. You are right that fantasizing plays a big part. I enjoyed your content and pics and other material, and thanks for sharing. Pinning hub. Blessings. Audrey

On the bright side, sometimes the fantasy really is better than the reality. You're right about that. On he other hand, there's is omething to be said for a little bit of obsession, as long as it's not the creepy, I'm-going-to-follow-you-everywhere type of craziness.

I enjoyed your introduction, as well as your poem! Lovely work.
