Poem: Clipped Wings

Updated on December 21, 2012
Forever in Our Hearts
Forever in Our Hearts

Angels with clipped wings

taken before their lives have been heralded in.

Heroes in a new time,

examples cut down before their prime.

One unhappy and forsaken soul, lost his way,

devolving into human decay.

The festering overwhelmed him so,

that he spiraled out of sanity’s control.

Entering into a sacred space,

taking lives, rendering a nation emotionally displaced.

Fear and armament, a new reality,

matching the millennia’s grave answer to the world’s brutality.

This cannot be a just resolution,

violence for violence,

never a solution.

Instead, we must promulgate kindness,

wrapping the world in the comforting

of gentle mindedness.

One hand in another spreading healthy reception,

changing the nature of a planet’s unwelcome

perceptions .

We must leave the world in a better place,

restoring it to love and everlasting grace.

web923 welcome back! Thank you for the great commentary and votes.

marcourjor I think this tragedy hit everyone hard. We have seen countless numbers of people slaughtered by shattered, deranged and ill members of society. This one particularly damaged our psyches because 20 children were coldly executed (among others who were heroes trying to save the lives entrusted to them.). And, unfortunately, the perp was a sick child himself who lacked the proper care, had access to violent war and sniper games and weaponry that was a grenade in the wrong hands (His mother payed a deadly price for her lack of judgment.). This child was born with no affect and had no mental clue about the value of human life, its suffering or even its bliss. Therefore, there can be no closure for there will be no answer to the, "why?" ....not that there ever should be. Thank you.

Gypsy Rose Lee Thanks for the vote and support of my work.

    Robin,

What a tender and loving tribute. Thank you.

At Honey BB's challenge, this is the second hub today, I am reading out of 26 ... This one is in honor of Daniel Barden (9-25-05) and may his sweet soul rest peacefully.

Merry Christmas to you and yours. Hugs, Maria

Deborah, I forgot to write your name on Betrayal's commentary, sorry. It is beneath your name. As for this one, again thanks so much for your readership and support.

Billy The conversation shifted from gun control to all bearing arms, even in schools. What a message! There is a terrible stigma with mental health and people are harmed by those in control of that field, not always helped. I also feel people should be cared for with kindness. Thanks for reading the poem.

Cathy Fidelus Thank you for your praises.

A beautiful sentiment, Robin, and your words are true. Way too much debate about gun control and not enough debate about mental health and social services. Well done my friend!

Irc7815 If the poor lost soul had been taken under the right wings he might have paid good forward rather than leading his misguided mind to harm innocent and beautiful children. We must bathe souls with kindness. Thank you for your response.

AudreyHowitt Thank you for taking the time to read this piece.

xtatic We each have the ability to pay it forward with good or evil. Thank you.

Robin, this is so beautiful. Thank you for honoring the innocent lives lost without hatred for the lost soul who took them. We need more like you.
