Poem: Cries

Updated on October 16, 2010

My screams drown your laughter

And blood pours from me.

And I watch through stinging tears

As you walk and laugh with glee.

At how I stupidly fell for you

And your emerald eyes.

But now I see your true colours

As you ignore my cries.

You told me that you loved me

And that we were meant to be.

And I only found out differently

As you struck to kill me.

My heart twists and cracks and breaks

And soon I will be still.

But while I breathe my last few breaths

I shout from this hill.

Of a boy with lips of devotion

That spoke with love and care.

But turned to black with fangs and blood

And made love seem unfair.

Because I loved that dark haired one

With the emerald eyes.

Yet now I see his true colours

As he ignores my cries.

And as I struggle to a stand

I see the bench he sits upon.

And I find the strength to move to it;

All my fear has gone.

‘Cause there he is, as bold as brass

Twiddling his knife.

And the raindrops whisper the words I need:

‘A life for a life’.

And with that a single move makes him

Suddenly drop his knife.

I knock him hard to the ground

And his dagger steals his life.

I drop the knife to the floor;

It lands upon his hand.

And so I stumble down to my knees

As if by his demand.

I pull myself away from him

And then lie flat on my back.

And think of how I once loved him

Before this fatal attack.

The rain massages my pale face

As I lose all my wit.

And it washes with it my life and soul

I know that this is it.

A dog nose nudges at her face

Her skin’s as cold as ice.

He lies not so far away

With darkness behind the eyes.

The dog whimpers and cries and howls

There’s fear within its eyes.

But no one comes as no one knows;

No one can hear its cries.

Your absolutely correct in your keen observation of this as being one of your all time "Masterpieces" It envelopes both fear, loathsome, anger and revenge all rolled into one Colin.

You my friend have the gift to move your readers in every direction with both humor, laughter and sorrow. I on the other hand can only move them to sorrow and tears, yet I am happy with that.

I admire your work and always have from the very start, you are certainly the Master and Mentor to many new and old writers alike. I am happy to rest in your shadow my friend. Now go wipe of that bloody life and bury it. he he.

this poem is a total wow for the epi-man, a certified masterpiece which has inspired me - because I love the dark side - although yin and yang is important - darkness and light - reminds me too of the dark side of one of my favorite songwriters Nick Cave - and please allow me to post this marvel of writing (one of the best ever at the Hub) to my FB music/cinema group with a direct link back here -Let's just talk music or cinema - (is the name ) and you are invited to join if you wish - and sending you warm wishes and good energy from lake erie time ontario canada 5:35am
