Poem: Finally Me

Updated on September 2, 2014

In my life I've had people to tell me what I can't do or wasn't going to accomplish. It took me a few years to get over a lot of the negative things that were spoken to me.

This poetic work showcases the transformation of a defeated mindset to a beautiful, emerged butterfly. Never allow anyone to minimize how awesome, strong and smart of an individual you were created to be on this earth.

Keep pressing, looking upward and don't worry about what "they" have to say about you.

It took me some years,

Trials, tribulations and overcoming fears,

To figure out who I really was,

Leading me to the woman I have become,

Learning to fully let go of the stigma,

“You can’t, you won’t, and you’re not good enough”

Negative words and shattered dreams,

Watching my hopes being ripped at the seams,

Look at me now,

Holding my head up high,

Not caring about your negative, damaging words,

Just keeping the faith and looking to the sky,

Broken, confused and lost,

That is where I used to be,

Fearless, confident and fiery,

Yes, this is finally me.
