Poem - Just A Collection of Memories

Updated on December 23, 2015
Source

Isn’t it painful to think

that one day,

we’ll eventually leave

everything behind?

And, everything

that is left behind

will be just a collection

of memories.

A dark time will come

where no one will be left

to remember and treasure us

as mere memories.

Remains that we existed

in this world

will be scattered

by the gusting wind

while whispering

“goodbye”.

Our ashes will just merge

with the sand along the seashore.

This time of deep hole

can't be evaded,

for Grim Reaper would fetch

each one of us

and on his book,

he’ll scribble our names.

A pang of sadness

rushes through my veins

whenever this idea

drowns me inside.

A sudden inexplicable movement

shakes my heart,

making it unstable

like an unbalanced gymnast.

This feeling of mine

can't just be described by words.

In a land of isolation,

I’m sure,

you’ll sense it, too.

This string of fate tied within us,

we cannot escape.

We cannot dodge the obvious fact

that a bottomless pit

will pull us down

and that

we will just be

a collection of memories.

And that someday,

we will be forgotten.

That's a really good comment, Missy Smith. :) It just really makes me sad whenever I think I'm going to die one day and be forgotten. Maybe in the future, I'll be able to look at this subject matter positively, and I hope so.

This is a very dreary and sad piece, but also true in all you have written here. I think a lot about death. I don't know if it's because I have lost some very dear loved ones in my life, but it's made me be very aware of what will happen.

I'm not sure I completely view it as you do though. Yes, the wind will gust us away, and we will say good-bye, but is it as dark as the bottomless pit you describe? Maybe once upon a time I agreed with that. However, as time has passed for me, and I add years on, I look less at the pit, and more at the release. I think it will be beautiful. I think it will be free and peaceful. Good poem! It really makes you think. :)
