Poem- Lush Corfu

Corfu Town

Lush Corfu

Rolling hills of verdant hue

Sweep the vista of lush Corfu

Olive groves and Cypress trees

Poppy, gladioli and chicory

Terracota tiles, white washed walls

Of individual dwellings large and small

Shingle beach and rocky shores

Meet the Med at oceans door

Barn owl shrieks it’s wheezy cry

Shrill and clear in the midnight sky

Cicada’s sing at constant pitch

Whilst mosquitoes bite to leave their itch

Corfu Town with Venetian allure

History waiting at every door

Two Old Forts defend the town

St Spyridon’s Tower looks on down

Narrow streets bustle with tourist’s beat

Then recoup in tavernas with weary feet

Sunbathers relax by pools or beach

Their new tan now not hard to reach

Speedboats, yachts and ferries cruise

Across the Med of greens and blues

All the while the sun beats true

Across the isle of lush Corfu

Ah makes me want to be right back there. Well captured, Storybailey. your poem is a credit to the destination.

Nice to see one of your pieces again, Storybailey. Get a game of cricket whilst you were over there? Prince Philip was born there and Franz Josef's empress Elizabeth had a palace there as well. The poem could stand being lengthened by a verse or two, though - (too short). You can do it, lad!
