Poem - Put Down Your Unholy Knife
Put Down Your Unholy Knife
"Judge not lest ye be judged"
"Let he who has not sinned cast the first stone"
"Blessed are the peacemakers"
"Turn the other cheek"
Why do you forget this lesson
In your zeal to cleanse
Your fellow man of their sins?
Why are you obsessed with rejection
Hurting another because of a human mistake
While ignoring the ones you make?
Who put you in charge of correction
Banishing those with whom you disagree
Creating on Earth a moral penitentiary?
Why do you cause insurrection
In the hearts and minds of those
Who see you standing with no clothes?
Why must we pass through the intersection
With you there steeped in piousness
Blocking gateways of humanity and godliness?
Why do you demand our genuflection
Beating us with your rod
Demanding worship of your IDEA of God?
Rid my mind of the infection
Of zealous and unforgiving worship
I no longer value your courtship
Viewing life through your obsession
Living in fear of error
Transferring to me your terror
Begin your marriage of integration
Of the word and your life
Put down your unholy knife
Understand that your interpretation
Is confused when judging another
Look in the mirror; it's time to discover
The true meaning of the invitation
Is about you and you only
Leave the others to someone more holy
The meaning of divine communication
Is the action that is so true
"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you...."
